is there a code or control to make the thing load..I just get a screen that say " missing operating system"..bought it used and cleaned out...have 5 disk XP for compac.

your computer is trying to boot from the hard drive, which like you said is clean. You must enter BIOS setup and change the boot sequence, so that it looks first at the drive with your set up media on it.

Can't you find the disk that says #1 Install?
Isn't it autoplay?

Insert the first disk into the cd rom and restart your computer(booting from the cd rom) and it will start the installation and prompt you for each disk as it needs it
