Asalaamu aleikum.
I have now decided I want to definitely take the Shahada, the question is when!
How can I do it with witnesses? I am a little worried about this...
I had someone who could help me before, but now she lives far away from me in her home country.
How do I go about doing this? I have been advised to go to the Masjid, should I go alone if I have no Muslim friends to accompany me? Should I get another friend to travel with me to the city of the mosque ? Do I book an appointment with an Imam, if so by phone?
I'm sorry that it sounds foolish but I am not sure what they would make of a 16 year old girl coming to convert, in Glasgow. Since some movements, and emigration it seems I don't live near any of my Muslim friends anymore so I don't know where to ask...
I would really appreciate any further advice on the matter and also thanks to everyone who helped me before in previous questions. I don't live near any muslims anymore and I don't know what to do.
Thank you

Praise be to Allah.

It brought us great joy to hear from the noble inquirer expressing interest in accepting Islam. It is indeed the religion that links the human being to his Lord directly via the belief in the oneness of God and through various acts of worship. It instills peace of mind and an inner serenity to the created human being, embodied in a unique relationship and devout tranquillity, encompassing love for, fear of, hope from, and submission to, God Almighty, Allaah. Indeed, this essence is the true meaning of worship, which comprises and combines acts of the heart with acts of the tongue in remembering God, in addition to the acts of the physical organs. This is manifested through prayer, fasting, paying zakaat (requisite charitable donations to the needy), and reading the Holy Qur'aan, among other acts, which you will find resulting in positive and benevolent effects in yourself, God willing (in shaa' Allaah). No doubt that if you decide to accept Islam that the conclusion which you will have reached was due to two things: (1) a sound mind and (2) success granted from God (Allaah).

As for converting to Islam, it is a very simple and easy thing, consisting of your pronouncing the two testimonies of faith (al-shahaadatain):
- "ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa allah"
- "ash-hadu anna muhammad ar-rasool ullah"

As for the two testimonies of creed, the first is "ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa allah" (I testify that there is no deity other then Allah), which means that one believes and confirms that there is nothing to be worshipped other than Allah and that one is prepared to implement His divine rulings and guidlines (shari'a) for all aspects of life. The second is "ash-hadu anna muhammad ar-rasool ullah" which means the belief that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the seal of the prophets (i.e. the final one), whom Allah has sent with the Islamic religion to supercede all other previous religions and that it is obligatory to comply with what he has enjoined, and to abstain and renounce all that he has prohibited and restrained.

Finally, we say to you that you are sincerely welcome as a sister to us in Islam, and we are in the utmost readiness to provide you with any service or information possible. We ask Allaah to fulfill, perfect, and complete His grace and benevolence upon you, and to grant you perseverance in holding fast to the truth. For indeed, Allaah is the One who guides to the path of truth and light.

Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim

Salaam Alaikum wa Rahmatullah

May Allah bless you and help you to always be on the Straight Path, Ameen. You can go to the closest masjid. What I would recommend is that you call the masjid and speak to the Imaam. Tell him that you have had friends who are Muslim and that you have been learning about Islam and that you are ready to say your Shahadah. He will probably want to talk to you face to face and perhaps ask you a few questions so he knows that you understand what the fundamentals of Islam are. Then he can witness for you.

This is a joyous occasion and I'm sorry that your friends are not close to you anymore. When you go to the masjid, don't be scared. It's natural to be nervous because this is so new, but it is wonderful as well. Wear conservative clothes. If you don't have anything to cover your head with, let the Imaam know so they can have an extra scarf there. Then ask him when you can come and I'm sure it will be fine. He may like for you to come to the Friday prayer or some other time when there will be a lot of people, or he may want to schedule a time when some women can come and offer you support. I'm sure they will be so happy for you! Just take their advice and relax and enjoy the moment.

May Allah make it easy for you. Please let us know when you go and how it goes. You are welcome to contact me through yahoo anytime.

Fi Aman Allah,

Nancy Umm Abdel Hamid

Allahu Akbar!!! - sorry got a little excited :)

Assalamu ‘alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh

The other members have given great answers, so I wont reiterate. I just wanted to say Mubarak and Welcome Ukhti to the True Path. May Allah (subhan wa ta 'ala) guide you and bestow on you the greatest blessings. ~Ameen

I am glad that you are open to Hijab (as you have said that you already have many). Just remember that it is not only what is on the outside, your modesty and piety must also come from within.
Your conversion may be difficult at first, especially for your family if they are not also Muslim. But remain steadfast in your deen (faith) no matter what. Allah (swt) will not lead you astray and you will be rewarded for your struggle.

Salam!
Just relax, you can go alone. If you have the phone number then call and tell them the situation so they can tell you what time the Imam will be available. I think it would be better if you go to the mosque at a specific prayer time and get a Muslim woman to help you out by telling her the situation. She will guide you there. All the best!

the shahada infront of witnesses is encouraged for reasons like: showing unity with the muslims, getting to know other muslims in your community etc etc

so you can say the shahada to yourself (btw if you believe in your heart that there is no god but GOD and that Muhammed is his Prophet then you've already said it!) and you can stop by the mosque whenever you have time if you want to say the shahada There anyway.

The Shahada :

أشهد أن] لا إله إلاَّ الله و [أشهد أن ] محمد رسول الله]

[ʾašhadu ʾan] lā ilāha illā-llāh, wa [ʾašhadu ʾanna] muḥammadan rasūlu-llāh

"[I testify that] there is no god (ilah) but God (Allah), and [I testify that] Muhammad is the messenger of Allah."

Conditions of the Shahadah

There are seven critical conditions of the Shahadah, without which it is considered to be meaningless:

Al-`Ilm: Knowledge of the meaning of the Shahadah, its negation and affirmation.

Al-Yaqeen: Certainty – perfect knowledge of it that counteracts suspicion and doubt.

Al-Ikhlaas: Sincerity which negates shirk (polytheism)

Al-Sidq: Truthfulness that permits neither falsehood nor hypocrisy.

Al-Mahabbah: Love of the Shahadah and its meaning, and being happy with it.

Al-Inqiad: Submission to its rightful requirements, which are the duties that must be performed with sincerity to God (alone) seeking His pleasure.

Al-Qubool: Acceptance that contradicts rejection.

You can go to the Mosque by yourself and take the Shadah with the Muslim sisters and then when an Imam is free you can go and take the Shadah in front of two Muslim men and the Imam. Then he should give you a certificate that states you are Muslim. Make sure you cover your hair in the hijab and your body in the Abaya and your face with the Niqab. You can go to http://www.desertstore.com and buy the hijab, Abaya and Niqab off of the Internet. Keep the Islamic certificate with you as you will need it to enter Mecca for Hajj.

Dear,

Just do it now!. God Al-Mighty ALLAH Subhanahuwata'ala is your witness.

Spell it out in Arabic.

"I bear witness that there is no God save Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad (Sallallaho alaihe wasallam) is the Prophet of Allah"

'Ashaduanla'ilaha'illallah, wa'Ashhaduanna Muhammadul rasullullah'.

You have the intention. Do it now. Something may happen later. Then you're a Muslim and your religion is Islam.

You may have to travel to a bigger city where you know there are Muslims.

Have you talked to your parents about this? They should be giving you as much help as they can. This is a life commitment, and as a Daddy I am interested in these things for them.

plz dont be afraid they are happy to take a convert of any age
in fact the younger the convert is, the happier they will be to welcome you to the masjid bcuz there are not many young converts
if u are unable to make it to any masjid, u could still make shahada....remember, Allah(SWT) is your witness for everything u do which includes shahada
