if i choose the "open" option, nothing happens. if "save" it to desktop and go to desktop and select it, i get a blank screen.

.xls is the extension for Excel. If you try to open it in Excel and still get a blank screen then the attachment has been stripped by your firewall.

.xls is an extension files that are made by Excel. You can download an excel spreadsheet viewer for free from the Microsoft web site. Or you can get the Open Office suite for free and that will allow you to open, create, and save your own spreadsheets. This is a free download at www.openoffice.org.

xls is an Excel file.
If you don't have Excel, you can at least take a look at it with the Excel viewer.
