I have a nice bottle of pinot grigio that I wanted to serve with dinner, the problem is, the wine opener broke the last time I served wine and I haven't replaced it. Well, I am on a tight (hear me! nonexistent, till tomorrow, payday, lol) budget and would like to know if anyone has any tips on how I can open the bottle without a corkscrew wine opener? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Do you have a Swiss Army Knife? Most of those come with a corkscrew that works for opening bottles with corks. If not, you can try pushing the cork down into the bottle, but I don't recommend it. A cheap corkscrew will only set you back a couple of bucks until you can afford a nicer one. Or, you can ask one of your guests to bring a corkscrew.

I had to do this at a restaurant once. Take a dull butter knife and very very gently push the cork INTO the bottle. Then when you pour, hold the cork back with the knife. Just do this out of sight of guests. No crumblies, nobody will ever know.

I don't know what you have available to you, and I'm not a wine drinker, but I once got a wine bottle opened with a drywall screw ever-so-gently inserted with an electric drill then used some pliers to pull it out.

A rather off-centered method, but it worked.

If you can't get one from a neighbor, then use a round ended object and push the cork into the bottle. I'm sure someone will help you drink it all.
