Yes I do compare sometimes. I belong to the 68 generation. I was at Ankara University between 67-72. We started the first university boycotts. I went to Ankara Law school for one year then DTCF English Lang.&Lit. for four years.
Those were the days my friend, we thought we could change the world! We used to march in the streets chanting: "Ho Ho Ho Chi Minh! iki üç daha fazla Vietnam, Ernestoya bin selam", and "hoşt amerika, p...t amerika" lol. Also "Bağımsız Türkiye".
We used to read a lot, we used to know what was going on around the world. Nowadays the youth seems so ignorant of politics. I don't want to call them disco kids, but they are different; indifferent to world affairs. This is so true for Turkey after the 1980 military coup. Evren managed to depolitisize the youth to a great extent.
edit. I remember we warned people about the great industrializes countries (capitalists) destroying the environment, our planet, and that a grim future was awaiting us. Do you know what they (the rulers and elders) said to us? 'Communists to Moscow'!!! Now I am afraid we will all go to Moscow because of global warming.
edit. One afternoon a righ-wing group (ulkuculer) gathered to attack DTCF (Ankara U.). I was sent to Political Sci. School (Siyasal) to ask for help. When I got into the office of the student union there and told them about the threat, someone sitting at the desk, his booted feet up on the table, turned to me and said, "who is going to attack DTCF? What do they think they are? Go and tell your friends Deniz (Gezmiş) is coming to see the situation."
It was him :) I hurried back, literally running in the streets. When I told this to my friends, they all starting shouting happily "Deniz is in Ankara, he is coming". All those right-wing students outside heard this and they immediately left running. This is one incident I will never forget.

I have heard so much about this generation. Hope to change the world, demonstrations for piece and human rights, rock concerts, activism.
But nothing remained. Only a picturesque remembrance by the ones who lived their years of youth in those days.

My dad is from 68 generation and my name is Deniz :)))
Yes, i usually compare those 2 generations and unfortunately i can not support my generation against 68's.
Most of the todays teenages only think to be famous and to be rich easily.

They were dreamers.
It is hard to be a dreamer when there is a military station in your campus, when Islamists can have protest marches and can bash people's heads, can break the windows of Atatürkçü DüÅünce TopluluÄu and when you know that nothing will happen to them. So, stop and think about it before blaming any generation with indifference.
I just wish they had the hindsight we now have and make long term plans according to the status quo, not just blurt out actions and let others wipe them out and suppress them. We need those dreamers more than ever now, and where are the remaining ones? They are tradesmen. Duh!

OMG Ask my parents about it,they are the best in comparing their generation to our generation now lol
My Opinion?I think back in the 68 was a simple generation where like ppl lived and were satisfied, now our generation theres lots of things surrounding us that we should be aware unlike their generation i dont know how to explain it its so complicated, now this generation all ppl can think of getting hooked up,internets, cell phones, latest cars, bragging about their life style, plus kids are being spoiled way beyond like lil brats now lol
Oh i forgot to say in their Generation they didnt had Britney Spears they had Tina Turner haha

my dad was from 68 generation. he used to tell his memories from when he was studying in Istanbul Teknik University and also ODTU. .Deniz Gezmis's dad and my dad used to talk about 68's alot. if i compare i think back then people was more honest and was holding on to their ideas more stronger. i think now they r more lazy. and most of them looks like forgot how they were back than. like some of my dads friends... what they do and what they teach is diffrent now. i think now people r more worrying about how they look and they r living for today..

ı agree with hottürk I do not like my generation now as in 68s generation there were 'us' now there is 'me'
very selfish generation with little values and changeable stretchable honesty(!)....
When I look into Deniz GezmiÅ and friends life and nowadays 'yurtseverler's life and compare, there you go, see the big ugly change... now that's something like a hobby, and just talk....no real spirit in it...
