You need to get the drivers for your LAN card and then the Windows Networking pack which will allow you to put and IP address on that machine. Once those are in place, and properly configured, then you should be connected.

Microsoft does a good job of explaining it on thier site here:

the provider is sturdy (maintains to be related) in my experience however the cost wasn't on the factor of that of my cable modem in long island with Cablevision. It rather relies upon on how briskly of a connection you have been experiencing with comcast. It varies from section to section. From what i've got seen in my section there is greater ability for speed in cable than dsl. My speed is around 30Mbps acquire & 5 Mbps upload. i've got by no potential seen DSL quicker than 2Mbps acquire and upload may well be dismall.

Hi, if u can reconfigure ur router and ur user name and password in the routers configuration then what happens is that since the router is on all the time so u will always be connected and u won't need to dial in to ur service provider meaning ur connection will be on all the time. This works on speed touch routers, I am sure, but the others I don't have any idea. I hope I helped.
Good Luck!
