I'm glad I'm not the only one.
I was once proposed to by a girlfriend I really liked, almost loved. The thing that put me off, though, was all she wanted was to be my wife. Her whole self and identity was dependent on me. I guess that's fine for some people but I want someone who can exist without me but wishes to exist with me.

well Ive heard it and its just a guys way of trying to be sweet so accept it as something good not something that will make you call someone psycho and if it scares you i guess you have never had a guy who truly cares for you i mean if a guy would say that than he has to have feelings for you OK so don't be scurred its only Winnie

Be glad you're at that stage where a guy still feels that way. In time they all become jaded with divorces and broken relationships, and they would never think to say that to you.
If a guy says it to mean his life is enriched and is much happier and better with you in it then great. If he literally will threaten suicide if you two aren't together, then you have a problem.

I guess it depends on the guy. It can be romantic, if the guy is stable, caring, etc. and does want to marry you. If he's strange, abusive and psycho it sounds crazy.

It is a little psycho...But I think that all over-emotionallizations are,,,Given the heat of the moment or the initial shock of the situation..But I must say...Love is insane..And we all deal with the Beauty of that in different ways...

I will never say that to anyone. I told my husband when I married him, do not EVER think I need you. I am marrying you because I LOVE you. I bought my house by myself raised my children by myself with no support, so don't think I need you. I am very self sufficient. I would love to be loved and give love in return, we have not jealousies in our home and it has worked for well over 20 years.

i've never said "i can't live without you".. but i have said.."I couldn't imagine life without you"
I've never told anyone that i couldn't live without them because that would be lying. Everyone eventually moves on with their life whether their loved one dies.. or they break up..
I think it's more of an exaggeration than anything... but i'm sure there are a few that really do mean it..

Me and my girlfriend have said it but we're pretty much inseperable. We've been together for some time now and we know by now that this is a lot more than puppy love.
