I work at a job where I am constantly standing and using my hands, with occasional breaks where I have nothing to do and just stand around at my station. I get bored very quickly. Are there any mind games, things I could think about, something I could concentrate on, or anything I could do during these down times so I don't feel like I'm wasting my time and my brain is dying in the process? This is kind of an odd question, but I feel like I could at least be keeping my brain alive during my extremely boring shift.

There are plenty of "games" you could play with yourself, not the least of which is counting the ceiling tiles.

Seriously, what I used to do in times like that was to teach myself coin tricks. I learned to palm a half dollar and worked on this again again anda gain while time was on my side.

In addition, get a clipboard (very official looking) and put paper in it for doing puzzles, pencil games and the like. Sudoku is good, because you can turn to it now and then, and then leave it when you're needed. Crosswords are also good becuse they, unlike Sudoku, keep your vocabulary sharp.

Whatever you want to do, take it to your boss and ask if this activity would be allowed during this down times. Once you have 'official sanctioning' you can then relax a bit more during these breaks.

If you are allowed to read then buy books that teaches you new skill.

If you really want to improve your mental abilities you get word puzzles. creative games but all these you need to work on work books if it is possible then you can sharpen your mind and not get bored.

Try observing people how they walk, talk and behave maybe in a course of time you will be able to judge a person and this can surely help you in the long run

All the best

Thinking is wasting time. Meditating isn't.
