Stress is a well-known cause of diarrhea but usually in the acute situation. For example, before a final examination a student may have the urge to have a bowel movement, and the bowel movement may be looser than usual. Chronic diarrhea is less likely to be caused by stress. The relationship between stress and constipation has not been studied much. Since stress causes most things to be worse, it is possible that it also exacerbates constipation or at least the perception of it. The major causes of troublesome constipation relate to muscular abnormalities of the colon and rectum, and these are not stress-related to the best of our knowledge.

Yes - in fact virtually every illness can have a psychological cause. there are dozens of stress related illnesses and diarrhoea is one of them.
First check out that there is no obvious physiological cause - eg eating bad food causing a stomach upset. And its always a good idea to check with your doctor to make sure there is no underlying problem.
Like most stress related illness, you will start to feel better if you try to relax, do some breathing exercises and seek support and help.

Yes, you can.
If you suffer from this occasionally, Pepto Bismol is a great treatment, available over the counter. It is a stomach relaxant, and helps with the tension in your stomach, and will help with/stop the diarrhoea too.
