(in the US) Contact your state Labor Board (listed in the blue "government" pages of the phone book). After 4 years it may be too late, though.

You should contact the State Labor Board. I just hope that there isn't a statue of limitations on this.

What type of back pay are you talking about? If you were owed wages when you left, call your employer and ask why you haven't been paid, then if they don't resolve it, call your state department of labor. If you are talking about unemployment comp, it's probably too late to claim it. If you are talking about something else, please post again with more detail.
