i'v seen many muslims decorating their houses and dressing up in costumes for halloween, i mean ur more than welcome to do that on other times in year, but doing it on halloween is OBVOUSLY trying to immitate the non muslims which the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as strictly prohibited

so why are thes so called "muslims" doing it? out of hypocrisy?

Brother, you and I both know why, it is the westernization of Islam. Capitalism, democracy, and atheism are all combining to try to make muslims in the west think they have to change to be accepted. You and I may take a certain pride in not being "mainstream" (such a dirty word, isn't it?) but many of our brothers and sisters a being fooled. It is something all of us have to try to combat. When we see these errant brothers and sisters, we should tell them how we feel about these things.

We don't celebrate it either and like you I do not understand. It could be because they are not versed on what Halloween actually is. Saying that the thing that really gets me is when they put up Christmas trees and lights, that I do not understand. I know its fun for the kids, but how are they going to view this in their adult lives. It is a very fine line.

They also celebrate Christmas and Thanksgiving in the US. It's all about the Culture of the country where we live.
Sometimes I have problems with Eastern Muslims on the difference of culture between East and West; If I grew up in Arabia, I surely won't be doing thanksgiving but it's impossible not to join in if you grew up in the US. Understand? I don't think you do...but that's a fact.

Brother something I fail to understand too. However many may not know the origin behind it? So as a good Muslim one must advise and direct them in the right manner.

May Allah (swt) grant each and everyone of us the correct understanding (ameen).

when i visit the middle east and see muslims celebrating halloween (and even christmas!!) i look down upon it, because its not part of any norms over there.

in the united states, i feel like since it is not technically a religious holiday, why give non-muslims the idea that we're hardheaded and not very down to earth, like most of them think muslims are. I have been taught by my mosque thats its "makrooh" and not 7aram to take part in trick-or-treating and such activities.
..and why not..like everyone else, im celebrating candy and scary decorations, not satan.

i don't celebrate it, but don't mind others celebrating it..i'm sure they just meant to be friendly, and get familiar with their neighbours, who during such occassions usually open up, breaking all those barriers of difference..after all, it's notlike they believe in all these witchcraft and stuff...i'm not sure whether its allowed or not, but in my opinion anything that promotes harmony between different cultures is ok, so long as they don't harm or hurt others..but, if there is any certain religious duty condemning this, then my opinion is of no importance, of course.

I do not decorate my house I do however allow my children to participate in their school parade and yes, they do dress up, as long as it is not violent or diabolic i'm okay with it. I do not go trick or treating.

Some might not know that Halloween is a holiday celebrated by ancient Celts and other Pagan religions like the Druids and Wiccia. Others might not think that they need to follow everything about Islam and might just be Muslim in name only. I do know that Prophet Muhammad(PBUH*) told us not to do anything that imitate the non Muslims in dress, manner, or speech and that includes celebrating holidays except Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha. I think that there are some Muslims who just keep parts of Islam they like while ignoring everything else. Like the Muslim women who are under the assumption that they don't need to wear hijab and that it is a choice or the Muslim women who think that they don't need to wear the Abaya and Niqab when it says in the Hadiths that all believing Muslim women have to cover their faces not just the women of Muhammad's(PBUH*) time and not just Muhammad's(PBUH*) wives either. They are either misguided or just want to ignore everything that Islam stands for. Which is sad but that is their loss. It is important that we show these Muslims in name only what they are doing wrong and why it is wrong and it is important that Muslim parents don't let their children rule the household like the non Muslims do. May ALLAH(SWT) guide us all to the straight path. Ameen.

I don't think they understand it. I think they like the idea of decorating the houses and the customs. Halloween is Satan holiday and generally any one who believes in God doesn't celebrate it.

one thing you do a lot which is distubing me is that you put air quotes around the muslim people you are refering to....is it possible people are not aware that this is haraam, brother, try to educated these people as best as you can. Only Allah is the one to judge.

In Sahih Bukhari there is a chapter entitled "The virtue of one who acquires ilm (learning) and imparts that to others."

salaam
