I am painting wine glasses as favors for my wedding. what I need to know is can you use regular acrylic paints on them and is there anything special I need to do after they are painted to make the picture permanent...other than spraying them with a clear protective spray?

You CAN definitely use Acrylic paints....but here are some other options...the biggest issue I think to keep in mind is streaking from the brushes.

TONS of glass paints to look into at the link above.

You can not use acrylics on a glass. Well you can and it will look great but what ever you do to it it will be gone after the dishes are done. There is no way you can protect acrylics on glass to make it permanent.

Glass paint works basically the same but is more resistant. Make sure everybody knows it is not dishwasher proof. (Almost no arts & crafts stuff it dishwasher proof)

I wouldn't use acrylics. They are water soluable. You may want to consider something with an enamel base, or perhaps even cloissonne paint. It has powdered glass in it.

I would suggest "One Shot" sign painters enamel. Don't let the name fool you. It's not just for sign painters. It adheres to any surface, comes in a ton of colors, and is durable as hell. This is what most pinstripers use on cars, and motorcycles. You can even reduce it with mineral spirits and use it with an airbrush. http://www.1shot.com/home.html
