Not something that's supposed to be funny. I do it all the time and I can't figure out if i'm a little nuts or if other people cope this way. My boyfriend, who I was crazy about, broke up with me a few months ago and I couldn't stop laughing as he gathered his stuff. I mean, I was in hysterics. I had someone rear end my car a few weeks ago and I was laughing so hard I could barely talk to the other driver. I don't know if i'm losing it or what. No wise answers please, i'm being serious for once.

By the way, I suffer from serious clinical depression. Not sure if that where these bouts of goofiness come from.

First of all, I must address I am just like you. I have serious laughing problem when in the circumstances where it's not good to laugh- like when hearing someone's tragedy, or playing a violent online computer game and laughing at people trying to kill each other, etc.
I just can't help myself.
Just like you, I have serious depression and anxiety problem ( I take at least 3 meds for that).
Based on your question, you merely want to know if there is anyone just like you. To accuratelly answering your question, yes, there is someone like you, and it is me.
But if your question meant something deeper, like why you laugh at the moment when it's not natural to do, I can answer with my own analysis based on my life experience.
First, I have a father who is always angry, very very (verbally) aggressive, and very very controlling. He loves me so much that he would be a devil to force me to study hard, and throw out skin-cutting painful words to advice on what I am wrong about.
Since my threashold to the emotional reaction to when looking at "bad things" happening is a lot lower than the others, and my father's way of making me motivated and becoming hard working person was using such a dirty tricks like using hate and forced study, intimidation, fear, and putting an extreme pressure to compete hard against other people, laughing is what naturally happens when I see some bad things happening to the other people. And, deep inside of my mind, there is a serious anger problem seated that is inherited from my father.
My father has very strong autism.
I think I am not giving you a perfect answer, but I know the above factor is the main factor of me laughing when I am not supposed to.
I hope this helps, and good luck!
-Dave

Some years ago I was in a seriously dangerous situation, and my life was threatened. With the intensity from the very unpredictable and violent person being so strong, another person might have wilted and crumbled, or tried to beat the guy to a pulp. My reaction to this violent situation was insupressable laughter.
At the time, being under so much stress I had my own mental health problems with depression PTSD and dissociation. The laughter response to intense situations or accusations followed me for many years.
When I received therapy and medications the laughter left me, returning in a much more appropriate settings. It took a lot of Therapy-work, re-ordering my life and adjusting my perceptions and emotions and emotional responses to what is more normal.

your reaction is not unheard of, it is simply the way you choose to express your stress reaction, you are not alone, and you are not nuts, it is simply your way.
