My father is very sick. He complains of pain all the time, but his surgeon says it's from dimentia. I can tell the plan is to send him to a nursing home and there I know he won't get the help he needs. No doctor will see him as a regular patient because he's 70 and had so many issues in the past. His regular doc disappeared from the face of the earth.

I truly believe my dad has a chance if a doctor, who cares, would actually listen to him. I've been told that Ohmsbusman are just in it for the hospital or nursing home interest, not my dad's.

Who can help me? Timing i so crutial. When my dad feels physically good, his mind works great. But it seems his surgeon is saying he's fading fast. I know it's because of his pain, not mental. How can I get the best care for my dad. . . please. . . . noone seems to be on his side.

Charity P gave a good answer but I can't quite understand why "no doctor will see him as a regular patient." Seventy is not old, I'm 75 and have no trouble finding a doctor. Nursing homes in my experience are just "warehouses for the dying" and I understand your concern. Look in the telephone yellow pages for physicians near you, call them and explain the situation. I'm sure there will be someone who will take him as a patient. If he is now in a hospital under the care of a physician other doctors will understand your wanting a second opinion and will arrange for a way to interview him one on one.

hey there:

I'm so sorry to hear of your father's pain as well as yours. I am personally not an expert on the subject, but I know a GREAT website that has lots of knowledgeable people and doctors that can give you some suggestions. It's a forum type website that is more specific to what your looking for than yahoo! answers. The link to the mental illness page is:

Everyone is very welcoming and fast to listen and help other individuals that are struggling with similar problems. Good luck. I truly hope for you and your father to feel better in the near future.

Warmest Hopes-
Chanty
