I have been with the same girl for 8 years now and have finally bought a ring. We both decide to wait until we were done with college and had a chance to save some money before we got married so we could afford a nice ceremony and reception. Well with that being said, it's no secret I'm going to propose (we both finished up school this spring and landed jobs soon after) so I am looking for a fun creative way to do so. I have been pitched many ideas already, but none "jump out" at me, so please dig deep down into that imagination and share your ideas with me! Ladies, how would you like to be proposed to? Keep in mind, I am a very unique individual and do not want anything too cliche or overused. Thanks fort the help!

wait till Christmas. on a peice of paper write words like forever - love - devotion - trust - faith - all the things you will give her as a husband. wrap it up in a box and give it to her. So as she's reading this paper wondering what the heck it is, get down on your knee and say "these are all the things I promise to you.....whatever whatever... will you be my wife?"
Congats and good luck!

Well, first of all, a proposal should be based on your personality and that of your fiance....not us. We can offer you some inspiration but I still think your fiance will appreciate it much more if your proposal comes from your own mind and heart.

A great start is this:

1) Think of a special place or memory that was significant to you both - where did you first tell her you loved her? where were you when you first realized you wanted to spend the rest of your life with her? Where did you meet her? You could propose to her there and be sure to describe the significance of that place.

2) If you want to be unique then do NOT do it on ANY HOLIDAY OR BIRTHDAY. That is very cliche. I know alot of guys do that and it's fine....most women don't mind but I only mention that because you said you wanted to be very unique with your idea.

Your challenge should be to completely take her by surprise. Right now, she's on her toes, looking for signs and that just ruins it!!! There SHOULD be some mystery to it!! :) It should come completely out of the blue (at least to her). I would do something that takes alot of effort even if not alot of money. That's what means the most to women. You could do something that has symbolic meaning.....like taking her to a theme park and tell her "I want to experience every adventure with you! This is just the beginning of our adventures together"

Find something that is special between the two of you or special to her. My husband made me my very favorite dinner at home. He had candlelight, wine the whole works. I was completely oblivious the whole time. Then for desert he told me had had pumpkin pie, it was in the oven. I opened up the oven, saw it in there and when I turned around he was on one knee. It was great. Another friend of mine got proposed to by her boyfriend when they had walked down to her favorite tree. She always went there to escape any problems she was having and since it was sacred to her he proposed there. If she isn't shy, you can always go with the fancy dinner at a restaurant and propose in front of all those people. You may want to be positive that she'll say yes though. Also, if you are close with friends and family, have a group of them together and propose in front of everyone. That way they all feel included and you don't have to spend the night calling people on the phone. Another idea, talk to her best friend so long as she isn't a big mouth and see if your girlfriend has ever mentioned an ideal proposal to her. Best of luck to you!

That is great congratualtions. What do you like to do as a couple? maybe suprise her with a trip for the weekend at either a lake a resort something speical to commerate your enagagement.

Propose on a lake in a canoe with choclate covered strawberries and chmapgne or non alcholic cider.

I know a person who propose to his wife mid air in a hot air balloon.

Propose at a state fair or a concert.

Or do what my brother in law did propose at dinner time in front of the family and make it speical. My sister God engaged on christmas eve:)

Maybe propose on New years eve while the ball goes down to celebrate the new year.

Propose by the beach or bay and go out to dinner.

I was porposed to 16 years ago by the water by the bay we did not hve a lot of money so we went back to my parents house after we got eneaged and had dinner and cake being my husband brought me a ring I did not think it was proper to expect him to take me out to eat being money was tight for him. I was proposed to on my 22nd birthday in May and today is my 14th year wedding anniversery.

Another thing you can do is make lasagna bread and salad and get a speical dessert and have dinner together walk in a pretyy garden and propose or propose at one of those tead rooms girls always love that.

Spend the whole day just enjoying eachother and doing things you both like and propose when she leasts expects it.

Go on a mini-vacation to a romantic cabin (area??) or nearby B&B. Put flower petals on the bed, champagne and candles and propose to her (kneel down ). Awww. Any woman's dream

Take her on a horse-drawn carriage ride downtown (area?/) and be a prince and propose to her right there and then. Any princess dream.

Hot air balloon. If available in your area, this is memorable and different.

Scavanger hunt. Give clues during the day, I.e. Send flowers to work with a note saying to meet you in X location at X time. Then when she goes, get another clue etc. Probablly end at the first date place or where you guys first met and surprise her then.

Signs. Get yoru friends together and when on a bbq, party or event, get yoru friends to hold some signs that read : Joanne , will you marry me?

Christmas three, Hang the ring on the cristmas tree on put it on her christmas stocking. That would be awesome.

7 boxes. Give her a present i.e. b-day, anniversary, valentine's etc. It would be a fairly big box. When she opens it up, there would be a smaller one. Until the little ring box is in the inner one. The box is empty though because you have the ring on your pocket. Then ask her to marry you. Awwww

While she's asleep, put the ring on her finger. When she wakes up, she will be shocked and then propose to her!!!

Carve pumpkins that speel. Will you marry me. Then light them on Halloween and tell her to look out the window and then she will see them!!!

Good luck and congratulations

Awwww!!! How sweet!!!! First of all congratulations in advance! I've been married for a year and it was really sweet and smooth how my husband proposed to me but it really wasn't that romantic but that doesn't matter cause I love my husband so thats all that matters. I think you should propose to her in a public place like at a nice restaurant or in a beautiful park or even better maybe even at a lake or by a beach when the sun is setting. Good luck

Maybe you could ask the local radio stations to help you out, and you could have the DJ plan to say something while you guys are both listening at the same time. Simple, free, and a bunch of people will hear it and think "how cool is that"...

I disagree with the roller coaster idea....you don't want to risk the chance of taking the ring out and having it fly out of your hands in the middle of a loopty loop, or worse have her puke in your face.

You need to think about your personal relationship with her. What is meaningful in your relationship? What is meaningful to her?
Is she really romantic (you down on one knee at sunset on the beach), or would she appreciate a funny hilarious story (you dressing like a gorilla and using a pumpkin as a ring box on Halloween) or a huge grand gesture (skywriting, front page of the newspaper, etc)?
Would she appreciate the intimacy of a private moment, or a public declaration in front of all her friends and family?

Is there a 'theme" to your relationship or a characteristic phrase/activity/moment that you share? For example, my friend's brother used to play with his girlfriend's rings, taking them on and off, when they watched TV on the couch, so he proposed by slipping an extra ring on her finger during their usual time.

If you want something really unique, you'll have to consider her personal preferences and the unique relationship you share with her. Whatever you do, if it's sincere, she's sure to be touched by it.

If I could choose how to be proposed to, I would love it if the guy bought those glow in the dark ceiling stars and stuck them on the ceiling to spell the words WILL YOU MARRY ME? and I went to bed but was totally surprised when I turned off the light and saw all those stars... Obviously he would be there as well, and pull out the ring.

every girl is different, and only you really know what she would like. some women are into big, expensive proposals, others want something small and meaningful. some want you to pop the question in public, others would prefer you do it in private. without knowing her and what she would like, i really can't say.

i do know, however, that most women care more about the thought and care that comes with a proposal than what form it comes in. do something that says you know her well, you value your relationship, and you love her more than anything.
