You do not understand and have been totally misinformed.......When Scripture mentions "the time of the end" or "the end of the age," it is referring to the coming end of the present evil age. This age—in reality the age of Satan—will draw to an end, replaced by the age of God's rule over and guidance of all of humanity.
This age to come—often referred to in the Bible as the time the Kingdom of God will govern the earth—will be ushered in by Jesus Christ at His return. Jesus is pictured in the book of Revelation as the resurrected Savior, the Messiah who is preparing to return to earth a second time. "I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore" (Revelation 1:18).
But how is He coming, and why? In Matthew 24 He gives us the sobering answer. Responding to the disciples' question, about the time of His return and the end of this age of man, Jesus laid out a frightening scenario that includes widespread religious deception, warfare, famines and devastating natural disasters. "All these," He told them, "are the beginning of birth pains" that will usher in this new age to begin at His return (verse 8, NIV).
At what point will He intervene? At the point that mankind faces annihilation. "It will be a time of great distress, such as there has never been before since the beginning of the world, and will never be again. If that time of troubles were not cut short, no living thing could survive; but for the sake of God's chosen it will be cut short" (verses 21-22, REB).
Why must Jesus Christ return? Conditions will have grown so terrible, so life-threatening, that human life will be in danger of extinction. He came to earth the first time to save us from our sins. He will come a second time to save us from ourselves.
Initially at least, it will not be a pretty sight. Revelation 6:16-17 describes Him as coming in wrath because of mankind's continued refusal to obey His laws and the world's continual slide into evil and self-destructiveness. His return is announced with the sounding of trumpets ushering in monumental calamities on the earth (chapters 8 and 9). Yet in all of this it is His great concern for mankind that leads to this righteous anger.
Jesus is pictured as the One who is returning to rule the nations of the entire earth (Revelation 11:15). He will not accept resistance from anyone who opposes His righteous rule and will make war with the nations and the leaders who oppose Him (Revelation 19:15). He punishes and takes charge for our own good—to bring peace to a world bent on destruction.
This is perhaps the most important picture of Jesus in the Bible, because this is the Jesus Christ the entire world will meet sometime in the coming years—perhaps in the not-too-distant future.

No, Chrisitanity is not6 an evil cult and what you are assuming is that Christians pray for the World to end.
We don't.
We pray thy Kingdom Come.
Which Kingdom? LOL
Thine not mine, so many who have a selfish desire to see that selfish world order of narcissism and self escalation proceed to complete selfdom would rather NOT see a impartial God make a Partial decision and instill a Kingdom upon Mankind.
And of course, eventually a New Heaven and a New Earth.
The assumption is we look to end ALL Things.
No we look to end your thing, my thing his thing and let God and HIS thing come.
We want His will and would rather give up our own for his be done.
Not an interpreter of His Will but him physically and personally to come and rule.
He will, so we do not worry nor doe we fear death. We loook forward to eternity not forward to an end of ALL things.
The Truth?
We LOOK forward to the Begining of BETTER THINGS.

I am a Christian (Catholic) and I have never, ever, ever prayed for the world to end...not by myself nor with others at church. I have never been taught this nor have I ever heard of this.
The only thing I can think of that might have made u think that is the fact that we don't look at the world ending nor do we look at earthly death as being the END of everything, but rather the start of eternal life with God. Does that mean that we hope to die or wish the world to end? Of course not. We just are comforted in knowing that when it does come (death or the end of the world)....its not really the end.
Hope this helps?
God Bless.

Christians are not obsessed with the world ending or death and destruction, who are you talking to, if they say that, they are not truly Christian, people can think they are and not be, our main purpose is to be a desciple of Christ and love one another as Jesus loves us, there is no cult, there is none of this stuff you all use as an excuse, we love our creator, He is yours too, but you won't see it, this life is our oppourtunity to make a decision whether we want to believe or not, that is your decision and yours alone. It will not matter what anyone thinks, it does not matter, You and You alone have to face God.

I think all cultures have some sort of "end of the world" superstition. Perhaps there's a "universal consciousness" in which humans somehow know about the other 5 major extinctions. Or perhaps Christians must be superstitious to believe their mythology, so any added superstition is automatically believed.

No....I don't pray for the end of the world. I pray for the peace of Jerusalem. If there is no peace in Jerusalem, then the world will end. Israel is God's timeclock.
I do, however, want to leave this crap of a planet. So I guess I pray for the rapture more often then most.

We pray for the world to end because we want to get to be rid of this sinful nature so we can always obey our Lord and we want to be with Jesus. For those who do not believe there is a God, then it should not matter to you because for you there is no destruction or damnation and when you die you just go out of existence, reincarnation or whatever it is that you believe.

Some are bad people masquerading as good pepole so they can do cowardly bad things. I would respectfully suggest that rather than simply believe everything you're told, try to discover some truth for yourself. That takes a little more effort. You might find this hard to accept, but some people who call themselves Christians actually believe in and live according to the real teachings of Jesus.

If the world is evil and full of violence (which it is, anybody who watches the news can see that) then of course we would pray for the world to end! We know that Christ will come soon and bring a permanent end to sin and sinners. I am so glad! Then there will finally be a lasting peace!
