I don't think she needs a visa. My father, who happens to be a green card holder, traveled to the UK numerous times without any kind of visa, and was allowed back into the US with no problems. However, your friend needs to obtain a Re-entry Permit. This can be done by filing the appropriate application with the USCIS. All forms can be found at www.uscis.gov.

Your friend can use this webpage:
http://www.delta.com/planning_reservations/plan_flight/international_travel_information/visa_passport_information/index.jsp

She fills in her citizenship, that she is a Permanent Resident in the US and that she wants to visit the UK.

It will tell her if she needs a visa or not. It will depend on her country of citizenship.
