No, K is like "kay", rhymes with may, day and almost with French et.

Key rhymes with me, see, and is almost the same as French qui.

(P.S. It's just "information" never "an information".)

Your wife is correct.
The word "key" is pronounced like "ki" and the letter "K' is pronounced like "kay".

For less confusion, "key" rhymes with "sea" and the letter "K" rhymes with "day"

En anglais ça se prononce comme ça:-

key - qui
k - ké, quai (les deux formes s'entendent)

k (kay) and key do not have the same pronunciation.
think: "K" / quai and "key" / qui
salut.
