My fiance hates to be touched. It takes him an abnormally long time to warm up to people. He shakes when we are in public, even when we go grocery shopping. He also tends to hide away, and its hard for him to complete simple tasks. I thought maybe it was social anxiety disorder, but my mother thinks it sounds like a touch of autism to her. When he was a child, he was actually diagnosed as a sociopath. He was never on medication for it, and is debating seeing a psychiatrist now, so i thought i would do some research for him. Also, does anyone know of a free site where i could just type in a list of symptoms and see what it comes up with. Thank you!

It could be any number of things, but only a doctor can give him the proper diagnosis. Schizophrenia can sometimes exhibit some of the symptoms you are describing. It could also be something simple. Agorophobia could be another explanation, in which the sufferer is afraid of large open spaces and unfamiliar surroundings, and tends to feel more comfortable when confined at home.

I have no idea what to tell you. My only question is, how'd he manage to start a relationship with you in such a condition? I can't even seem to get one going and I'm not at all like that! He must be a pretty special guy if he was able to overcome a problem like that and still find himself in a realtionship. I wish I knew his secret...

Please don't try to self diagnose this problem. We all react to the same situation differently. This is something that needs to dealt with by a professional. There is no shame in needing help. The only shame is not doing something about it.

This type of thing is harmful and stops us from having fulfilled relationships. It is a shame he is missing out on life. We all need to be touched to feel loved. I hope your friends seriously considers getting help, Life is meant to be lived to the fullest extent of our human and spiritual capacity.

I'm like this, and perhaps it's just that he's very, very sensitive.

And a touch therefore.... would be a lot more to deal with than is the norm.

This hiding away is an attempt to deal with such sensitivity to the world.

It's social anxiety, shyness, not being confident in oneself...

Is there something that happened in his past? Sometimes a dramatic incident in someone's life such as child abuse can shape their future characteristics. All in all, he should seek professional help.
