My dog goes completly crazy when I'm not at home, this did not start until I moved into the house I'm in now. He is a pointer mix 66lbs...He has jumped through a window (while shut) broke the glass completly out and the landlord was outraged! (we almost got evicted) so we bought a big metal kennel/crate... which is located in our bathroom with the door shut. he has been in there while My boyfriend and I are at work for about 3 months now.he has attempted once to chew the metal and gotten out three times, so we has strapped ply wood around the cage on the sides and just propped peices for front and back...Most recently he has chewed the whole back of the kennel crate open and gotten out of the cage while we are at work injuring his paws and face.. and even scratching the wall behind the cage in the process GIVING HIM AWAY IS NOT AN OPTION but i have no idea what to do with im.I work nights so its hard to find a dog daycare...ANY IDEAS PLEASE HELP!!! b4 im evicted

Throwing him in a crate and locking him in the bathroom is not going to help his separation anxiety. In fact, it's likely making it worse,...but there are things you can do to help your dog get over his anxiety. First, you have to determine whether it's actual separation anxiety, or boredom. Does he have plenty of things in the home to amuse himself with? How soon after you leave does the distruction begin? Is he stuck to your side when you are home?

If yes, than you've got an anxious dog on your hands. Try making your departures and arrivals low key. Don't fuss over him...be happy, but not extatic to see him. Get him used to the sound of your keys. Give him toys and playthings to keep himself occupied while you're gone, and try incorporating more exercize into your daily routine. Here's a link with more tips for you. If all else fails, see a behaviorist.

How many hours a day does the dog stay in the crate during a day? If your answer is more than 6 you need to hire a dog walker or be able to come home and let the dog out for exercise. Dog that have a cage rage syndrome (what I like to call it) really need lots and lots and lots of exercise to keep their anxiety levels under control. Think about it you just ran 10 miles and are exhausted now you have to do 2 sinks full of dishes by hand. You really don't want to, all you want to do is crash on the couch and relax.

Exercise seems to be your only bet right now on curbing your dogs anxiety.

If you can, Take a run/walk with the dog in the morning for 30-45 minutes and the same in the afternoon. Try some fetch games will help too.

she needs training. Call one up and strat classes right away. In the mean time do some crate training. Put her in the crate while your home and leave her in it till shems quite, as soon as she's quite let her out and give her praise, do it several time through out the day. When you come home don't look at her, talk to her, or let her out of the crate untill she's calm. No matter how anoying she is DO NOT acknowledge her until she's calm. Act as if you do not have a dog unless she is calm. A calm dog gets attention, treats, food, what ever she needs, a wild dog does not exist and gets nothing. She will learn quickly it your consistent.

try getting him a playmate so he wont always NEED you so much my dog used to cry the whole time i wasn't home by getting him a playmate it will keep him busy and hopefully out of trouble i think its just the new situation he is in and if that is the case then a new pet WONT be the answer try bringing him an old blanket that he had at your old house or an old toy to bring back old scents and to calm his nervous also it will let him know everything is OK good luck!

Your dog is having separation anxiety. You need to study animal behavior to find a solution or find an animal behaviorist who can help you work with your dog to help him get over this.
