Unknown,
For a low level social drinker or someone that likes a couple of beers or a glass of wine with dinner - the benefits are minimal for quitting altogether:
1. Slightly less caloric intake
2. Save a few bucks here and there.
3. Zero risk of a DUI. Considering that .08 in most states is over the limit, and .08 in your system can barely be felt, this is actually the best reason to not drink any, at least if you've driven anywhere. Given the accuracy of the device, 2 drinks are enough to get most people in some real trouble.
The downside (not that you asked for it) is:
Slight loss of health benefits (since 2 drinks a day actually improve your health slightly)
Loss of an enjoyable experience if you enjoy the flavor and relaxation it brings.
Now - if you a binger or heavy drinker on a daily basis, I don't know where to start, but prolonging your life if you quit is the biggest advantage. Feeling better on a daily basis is a good one. More normal gut functions (let's spare the details) are nice. Cessation of possible negative impact to friends and family. And lastly - drinking heavily on a regular basis is an expensive hobby that really adds up over the course of a year.
Bottom line - heavy drinking is very hard on your body and mind.

Hi B M, All the things that you are describing are things that an "irresponsible" drinker or an alcoholic would do. I personally do enjoy a glass of the appropriate wine with the appropriate dish from time to time. I am an occasional drinker and one who drinks in moderation. I am also in my late forties and do not go out and drink so much that I "throw" up in the streets. So the benefits of drinking in moderation are as follows: I enjoy the occasional glass of wine and as an adult it benefits my appetite to have one. I do not drive after drinking, beat people, abuse paramedics, overwork the police, I have never been mean or ugly to the neighbors after a glass of wine,I do not socialize with my boss outside of work, have never said anything to my spouse while drinking or otherwise that I have regretted, and I have been waking up with the same man for many, many years now and he is, in my opinion quite attractive(whether I have had a drink or not). So I would say that you are grouping all people in to one group instead of realizing that some folks should never drink, and some folks are quite capable of having a drink without being/doing all the things you mentioned above.

After binge drinking for 25 years, I gave up booze in 1992. I was spending around £8 a day (in 1992 money) and reckon that I've saved £50,000+ allowing for increases in cost of booze.
A lot of that money has gone on my family (holidays, clothes, university costs for child, etc) and I've managed to actually save £25,000 in an ISA ( a lot of which is the tax-free interest).
If I had not stopped, my wife and child would never have had anything and would probably have left me. Instead, we have a wonderful relationship and I am healthy, thank God.
What can I tell you? Drink causes fights, marital breakdown, misery and poverty.
Drink? Forget it - have a life instead.

Its good for your health.....your purse........your memory! You can still get drunk on atmosphere and enjoy the company of your friends even if they are drinking and your not; (it can also be quite amusing watching how your friends react to alcohol). I'll have the odd glass of wine now and then, but I stopped because I have health problems. The benefits of being alcohol free differs for each person; it depends on how much you used to drink and how much it affected you.
Give it a try & see how it goes - good luck :)

No hangover, you're free to drive, you notice how ugly that guy really is and his complete lack of personality, you are able to work and operate heavy machinery, you can see only one of a thing or person instead of double, you never suffer from kebab/curry tummy, you have more money in your pocket at the end of the night, you can go out and happily remember all the drunken *really* embarrassing stuff your mates did - probably reminding them as you do so. You'll know what that odd smell is now, you'll never find bowls of cereal with ketchup or half chewed dog biscuits under sofa cushions. You'll remember subscribing to Reader's Digest/Jugs Monthly/Cage & Avery Birds.
Hee hee hee. :)

if you mean in general.. that all the alchohol was eradicated.. without any smuggling..
it would probably mean..
* no more alcholis
* probably more druggies + other addictions as there are a lot of alcoholics that need their fix
* no more teenage drinking but more drugs
* smuggling and trying to do ANYTHING to get alcohol.
* the underground price of alcohol goes up
* no more sickness' due to alcohol
* no more alcohol poisoning- so more room in the emergency rooms.
thats just what i think : )

No hangover depression, no shame, guilt, remorse, no drunk dialling, no trying to set your home alight when you get the munchies when you get in, no fights, no mood swings, more money, no blackouts from drinking too much, no ripped clothes, bruises, lost phones/bags/coats/shoes, no drink driving, no admittance to hospital, no vomiting.
Now you can see why I gave up drinking 5 years ago with the help of AA!

Health benefits- a good liver among others, no possibility of it disrupting your life if you don't drink it because it does that to a lot of people.

Health for one,
not living in a fog
people not being mad at you for living in a fog
not acting like an idiot anymore
not saying stupid stuff or doing stupid stuff when you think you are being perfectly normal.
Actually knowing what is going on around you.
Not dieing young---at least from alcohol.
Being able to carry on a normal conversation with people around you.
Being able to actually have a meaningful relationship
Being able to actually have a relationship with God and understand that He died for you.
Because you can't hear him speak to you as well if you are drunk.
Finding purpose in your life.
Being able to deal with your problems and move on
