I swear by garlic tablets for my dogs. I have never had a case of fleas or worms in my dogs since I started using it many years ago now. My old dog used to have a terrible flea allergy but once we put her on garlic she never caught fleas again.

The trouble with chemical treatments is that the fleas do become immune to them (much like head lice in humans!) meaning that you need stronger and stronger treatments to kill them. I hate using chemicals on my dogs so tried garlic and its great. Also use it for chickens, put a a couple of garlic cloves in their water to keep mites away - its much used in the poultry world.

Would just like to add that you don't just give the dog garlic when you see fleas and hope they go away, the dog has to take garlic every day as a prevention, not a cure. Garlic is also good for the heart.

I think it is great to use natural methods if possible. I have 3 large dogs, and an occasional foster, and we live in Florida, where fleas are abundant, and not once have we had a problem. I have Frontline on hand in case we need it, but thanks to the natural means of prevention, I have never had to use the chemicals. I am all for doing whatever you need to to get rid of pests, as long as it is safe to the dog, but I prefer to use non-chemical means if possible. We have never had a worm, flea, tick, or anything.

I use no store bought flea things on any of my animals and none have had fleas since I began controlling the dog's food completely.

The dog's food always has a bit of garlic (minimal amount as it kills red blood cells which will cause anemia) in it. The cat just gets straight garlic since she still eats kibble.

Even when we visited a friend's house who turned out to have some major flea problems my dog came home flea free.

I think its great if you monitor the amounts properly and dont inadvertantly kill or harm your dog.

More pets are allergic to the poisons in flea remedies than herbal means. Brewers yeast isn't effective as an only method type thing, however in conjunction with house cleaning, diatomous (sp?) earth and good hygienic grooming it does help.

My opinion is, that if they actually worked, there would be no market for flea control products!

In my experience, the only people who think home remedies and store-bought products work are the ones who wouldn't actually realise if their pet had fleas or not. Most people don't, unless they're actually being eaten alive themselves, or their pet is scratching itself to death!

When used with other remedies, they help alot, but they can't get rid of fleas on their own. The other flea stuff is just poison, if its killing the fleas, its doing plenty of damage to your dog, too.

Worthless and some pets are allergic or sensitive to them. Frontline or Advantage are the only things that work long-term.
