I also think they were weaned too soon. I have a three month old kitten who has just started sucking on my bathroom rug. I haven't seen him do it to anything else but he sure goes to town on that rug!!!

The kitty could have been weened too soon. I also see my cats at 6 years old that were bottle fed returning to this behavior. I think maybe they are trying to self sooth. My one boy Turbo does this when he has been out side for a while. He kneeds with both front and back feet, nuzzles and sucks at my hair. He used to suck his balnket when he was younger. My two boys are littermates and one just kneeds and purrs. The other one suckles. I used to have a cat that drooled.

Yes it is because they were taken from the mother before they were ready to stop nursing. Some cats do this forever and some stop as they get older. Poor babies. People are in too much of a hurry to give them away, and sometimes this is the reason they are not completely weaned.

I do believe that's one possibility. I had a cat too that tried to nurse my fingers after having been traumatized by being stranded up a tree for most of a day: I ended up having to 'wean' him.

Or maybe your cat still thinks he's a kitten, and the blankets and pillows remind him of 'momma'.

I think it's because hey are weened too soon. I had a friend who's cat did that. I think it's sad. They are approaching old age and still looking for their Mommy.

It's just a very strong instinct.
