I am not so sure you would get sick, but, they say it is not a good idea because people try to take twice the amount to get it to work causing in some cases overdose. Also taking a expired presciption is not good because well, it doesn't work as well as it used to if at all.

No. The expiration date of the medication is the date up to when the manufacturer guarantees it's potency. So basically, the worst thing that would happen is that the medication would be ineffective, and not do you any good. But it is also likely, if it isn't expired by more than a few months, it may well still be as potent as usual.

It depends on what it is. Generally though medication just loses its potency as it ages, which is why it has an expiration date on it. Some medication becomes unstable after a certain period of time.

I find that expired medication just loses what it is supposed to do for you. I've never gotten sick off of it.

The only medication to be leery of after the expiration date would cyclines... like tetracycline etc. They can become toxic, read somewhere...

Other meds as long as they are working it should be ok. Now if they are 3 -5 years old... you might as well pitch them

No, the expiration date is there because after a certain period of time the medicine will lose its efficacy.

I don't believe you can get sick... however if the meds have expired they are less effective. Most meds are only good for one year...

depends on how long it has been expired. Meds can lose thier strength over time, or if exposed to extreme temps, hot or cold. so while you may not get sick.. you may not get better either.
