First, wash and dry it well (I'm assuming it's a new skillet.) Then, pour some vegetable oil into the skillet - not a lot, just enough to coat the bottom and sides (I use a paper towel to rub the inside with the oil). Then, put it into a 300 degree oven for about an hour.

We reseason ours if it seems to be sticking - maybe once a year - you don't have to do it too frequently.

New pan? Wash it, dry it on the stove, burner on med-med hi heat. When dry oil it (olive, canola, whatever you use). Done. You shouldn't have to season it again. Don't use soap when washing, while hot clean with salt. When using just water, dry on stove always. never air dry or leave it with water sitting in it as it will rust.

After each use, I recoat with a light layer of Crisco.. very light. Then I let it sit, uncovered on top of the stove for a couple of days so it can get good air circulation.

i think my grandma used to not wash with soap, she used to burn off what was left and kind of scrape it off, then she would put cooking oil and wipe it with a paper towel while it was hot(on the stove)
