hey there:

Congratulations on trying to quit smoking. It's hard but so worth it in the end.

I've been smoking for 6 or 7 years and I just decided to quit. At first I tried to go cold turkey, but my withdrawal symptoms were really bad. Then I tried just taking pain killers to relieve my headaches. That just made me woozy all day. Finally, I bought some nicotine patches. Those worked great.

The patches can be a little pricey, but if you go to Target, they are about half the price and just as worth it. There are three stages. The first stage is for if you are a pack a day smoker. The second stage is less than 10 cigarettes a day. And so on. I put one on right when I wake up and it keeps my cravings down to a minimum.

Also, having someone to really support you quiting helps too. My friends and family were all there for me when I was having cravings or just wanting to talk about it. Trust me, quitting alone is alot harder than quitting when you have a support group.

There are alot of great support groups online if you are looking to get more advice or help with quitting. The one I use most frequently is:

http://dailystrength.org/support/Addiction_Recovery/Smoking_Addiction/

At this site, you can talk to people who are quitting, thinking about quitting, or have successfully stopped smoking. Everyone is really compassionate and can identify with your same issues.

Good luck! I know you can do it!

Warmest Regards-
Chanty

Nicotine patches work but only if you are commited to stop smoking. Chantix from the doc is the best thing that works though.

How well the patches and gum works depends on how committed you are to actually quitting.

No. None. If you want to stop you are going to have to do it yourself.
