A labyrinth is a system of paths (or tunnels) that wind from beginning to end so that the distance is longer than drawing a straight line from point A to point B. But, there are no choices involved. The path is already laid out.
A maze is similar, except there are choices on some paths that either let you continue or are a dead end.
So, I'd say life is more like a maze since I don't believe life is already pre-programmed.
Edit: I thought about this some and I'll acquiesce that there may be some influence to guide you at each turn. I just can not accept any all-powerful, or a number of powerful beings, with a conscious would allow events like The Black Plague, the Holocaust, Inquisition, Crusades, etc. to occur. But I still stick with the maze theory. There is an end but you still have choices to make that affect your life.

Depending on the person it could be a massive maze or a simple joy ride.

Yes, I think so and I like the analogy. However, we put all the curves and obstacles on the way...

Peace!
