I went to a service station last week for fill up my gas tank. I got $30.00 worth of gas, had to prepay on my credit card, so when I actually filled up I only needed $27.41 worth of gas to fill my tank. I went inside to get my change, and the clerk SCREAMED at me in front of ther customers:

Cash rules everything around me, CREAM, get the money, dollar dollar bill yall!!!

I was mortified, and just left, and he didn't give me the change.

What did he mean?

It was beyond rude, it was theft.
When you have to pre pay they should just be holding your card until the amount is known. Then they should fill in the amount and have you sign. They can 'swipe' your card on pump # what ever and give you back your card and then you go in and finish the transaction after you check to see the amount charged to the account is correct.
If you plan on using this station again, I would report the situation to the manager and let him re train his employee. ME, I would report the guy and NEVER go back to that station, If they hire employees that can't handle the job,are not properly trained or just inept, how many other ways are they cheating you... IF they have some STRANGE way of doing biz and Made you pay signed the reciept and all, for $30 it should have been posted and you could have grabbed a soda and chips or something to make it $30 worth of stuff in your possesion......

I'm a bit confused and maybe you can edit your comment to add a tad more detail. You mentioned that you had to "prepay on your credit card", so why would there be "change" waiting for you inside?

I realize your total didn't come to the full $30, but I'd just assume that the $30 was simply a 'cap' a 'limit' put on your fuel-up, and anything under that would be the charge that would end up on your credit card statement.

If that isn't the case, and you were charged for the full $30, even though your total was less--you might want to visit with that gas station's manager, or just chalk up the $2.59 loss as a lesson not to return to that station again! (or go to a station that accepts cards at pumps--that's what I always do).

Bottom line--of course the comment was rude! I have no idea what it meant, and you didn't use quoations, so no one reading your question has full knowledge of where the quote actually started and where it ended; but if he didn't give you change, and was screaming--any comment would be rude, right?

I mean, he could have said, "HAVE A NICE DAY!!" at the top of his lungs, but if he screamed it in front of customers and didn't give you your money--wouldn't that make it rude? Regardless of what he said, it was how he said it...and he dismissed your concerns and needs, and that act alone is rude.

Sounds to me the use of "CREAM" to describe someone could potentially be a racial-based slur, too....

That sucks, man--that would make me mad.

Okay...first off that prick cashier had NO right to scream at you like that! Certainly not for something as petty as needing change back. I couldn't even tell you what he meant. He frickin sounds like he comes from Mars or something. "Cream??" What the hell is that, his brain substance?! Yelling like that was unprofessional and RUDE! Do you know how many times I've prepaid and had to go back for change?? When one prepay's they can't always be "right on the money" and guess what their tank is gonna take. If I were you I'd find out which corporate office runs that station and then file a complaint! Take action! I'm sure you're not the first person he's slammed. What a ******!

I would get the number of the station and call to ask for the manager. I'm not sure what his exact comment meant... Cream?, but it sounds like he's unstable. If he can't understand the concept of not being able to fill your tank past full so you reach the $30, he's psycho.

I'd talk to the manager. You know, there's a reason why those type of people work at the gas station in the first place.

Yelling at customers is very rude..and what he said doesn't make any sense. Maybe stress at work got to him.
By the way, when you prepay with a credit card like that, it caps you at 30.00 but only charges you what you purchased in gas. If you had paid with cash, you would have required your change (when I worked at a gas station, I just left the cash out in a safe place until the customer was done in case I needed to make change).

report him to the manager of the station and get your money back, maybe you'll get a bonus. That is a frequent occurance at gas stations since many are prepay. Just be sure to get a receipt before you fill up and then if there is money left over show the clerk just incase they have forgotten. There was no need for what they did to you.

Don't worry about them ;) Some people just may think three children is a lot. But if that's what YOU want and YOU can handle it, it doesn't matter what anyone else is thinking! My husband and I are happily married with a 5 and 3 year old...after 6 months of TTC we spontaneously conceived twins. I'm getting odd looks when I tell people as well. Yes, the pregnancy was planned. No, the twins were not...but oh well! ;) If you're happy with it, that's all that matters. ;o) CONGRATULATIONS!

First of all, you will only be charged for what you actually got in gas, he knew that, so instead of answering you, he yelled out rap lyrics (by Wu Tang Clan) about money. Second of all, cream is a slang word for money. Third of all, the comment itself wasn't rude, his actions were. But he's probably 16 years old or something and lives in the ghetto. Who cares what some 16 year old kid yells out in a gas station? When a situation like that arises for me, I just laugh and go about my business. There's no reason to be mortified. Why care what other people think of you anyway?

I am sorry, I do not know what he meant. I do not speak idiot. However, save your gas receipt that says $27.41, and dispute it when the time comes. He can only legally charge you for what you spent, not what you prepaid. That is just to turn the pumps on to protect the business from drive offs. You will be fine, and next time, pay at the pump.

I don't know what he meant, but you had every right to get your change. Let me ask you this. Had you wanted $30.00 worth of gas and only had $27.41 would he have allowed you to get $30.00 worth? I think not. You should have stood your ground and got your change. He had no right to be rude and he owed you your change. I would not purchase from that establishment again. Good luck. 2D
