Would birds suddenly appear whenever I heard Richard Dawkin's sweet voice?
Would life become colorful, vibrant, bright and full of hope?
Would I find a reason for living?
Would I be more willing to love monkeys? (I hate them now.)
Would I become more forgiving, less judgemental? Less angry? Less bitter?
What's so great about being and atheist? Is it truly so much better on the other side of the fence?
And don't tell me, "Oh we're free from delusion."
Someone's delusion is another person's reality. How does being an atheist make you better as a human being? How does does it make you so "right" and and everyone else so wrong? Why are you angry when people flaunt their religiosity, and yet you flaunt your godlessness?

No.
Yes, yes, yes, maybe.
Maybe.
It is possible, but probably not.
Maybe.
There is not 'your reality' and 'my reality'. There is only one reality and that is the reality of the universe. I do not claim to have that reality down 100%, but I am certain that it does not incorporate a Christian god in it.

A drunk with a bottle is a very happy man. Does that mean that you should give a drunk a bottle, or a heroin addict more drugs?

We take away the addicts drugs and the drunk's bottle because we believe that it is better for them to face the real world.

I think that am a better human being becasue:
I know I am responsible for what I do. It is not part of some grander plan.

I know that when I die I am gone forever. My only legacy is what I do and say here. I better make it good.

I know that ther is no safety net. No one is going to pull mankind out of the mess it makes at the last minute. We need to do it for ourselves.

I know where my ethics come from. It is not a 4000 year old book writen by bronze age nomads whos' ethics have little or nothing in relation to our society. Or a 1900 year old rewrite. It is still massively out of date for our society.

I know where my charity goes. It does not pay a priest. It does not maintain a church. It does not by books that nobody needs. It does provide the most help for the smallest overhead on long term fix-the-problem solutions rather than short term band-aids.

It doesn't. Life doesn't change one bit. You do not become a better person simply because your beliefs change. It's OBVIOUS that anger does not stop, nor bitterness because there are many atheists around here that are both. A good person is not based on their religion, but based on their personality and their heart. I'm a Christian and i'm a good person. If I were an atheist, I really doubt that I would change for the better. As yet, I haven't met someone that was once a Christian and became an atheist and changed as a human being. It doesn't work that way, yet some atheists seem to think so. I am not delusional because I am a Christian, not am I any less intelligent than another because they believe something that I don't, when what they believe is also based on faith, just as my religion is, yet they state that theirs is fact, and mine is fiction. In the Bible it says that we will be hated for the name of Jesus Christ and for our religion, and that is 100% true, which is obvious.

It seems to me that you're against all atheists. I might believe in God, but I admire atheists. If you ask most Christians why they're Christians, they'll answer with something like, "because that's how I was raised," or "because God is the only God," or something stupid like that which gives no solid reason whatsoever. Atheists, on the other hand, look at their religion, find the weak points, exploit them, and break free of religion. They might choose wrongly, but they choose for a good reason. The wrong choice for the right reason. Many religious people called atheists close-minded, but who really has the closed mind? The one who examines the conventional truth, or the one who accepts it? It doesn't matter on their choice, it just matters that they opened their mind.
And who says atheists get angry when people flaunt their religion? Some of my friends are atheists, and they never get angry at me when I talk about religion. We debate and discuss it, but they accept that I believe in God and I accept that they don't, and we don't fight over it.

My lack of belief in god/s has nothing to do with my being a good, happy, fulfilled, creative person. My humanism and my humanity have much to do with it. Think about it: how much does your lack of belief in pink elephants really influence your life style, morality, ethics, treatment of others, etc? Now, apply that to atheism.

I don't know if you'd be a happier, more joyful, and better person if you lacked theism. I imagine that you would still be, in your own words, angry and bitter. If you don't see the vibrancy of life now, I see no reason for your perspective to change based upon a lack of belief in whatever god you currently worship.

By the way, I've never been angry with someone for their religion, and I don't think it's accurate to say that I "flaunt my godlessness."

Your life may or may not improve. You see, the problem is: you are trying to look at atheism on the same level as a religion. Atheism is not a religion. Atheism is not organized. There is no doctrine of belief for atheism. Many religions preach that if you accept their god, you will find happiness. There is no such thing for atheism. Atheism is simply the absense of a belief in god. Nothing more, nothing less.

wow thats a lot of questions. I am atheist and I dont say that other peoples religions are wrong, I just think they seem kinda stupid. no offense. I used to be a christian, but one day I sat down and thought about it............"God".......The universe.........Spirits ...............aliens......Then I thoght WTF!!! I cant believe that I even believed in that in that in the first place. Christans are supposed to forgive and not be judgemental, but they are the most judgemental people i've ever met. Being atheist was the best decision of my, it has allowed me to see the world from a different perspective.

Tzo, if you wish to remain within the matrix that religion has you in, feel free to stay there, but don't force us all to join either... Joe has alot of good points, too...

i don't condemn you for your religion, i'll discuss things with you just like anyone else, the difference is that i won't judge you for your beliefs in gods, i'll judge you for the quality of your argument, and the intelligent thought you put into it...

Atheism, like religion, should be a highly personal thing. Happy that you have faith, and might expect you to be just as approving of those of us who have lost it. I'm sorry that you find the concept of a godless universe so upsetting; to me it is strangely comforting.
