I'd have to know the particulars, but it's possible that the officer either tried really hard to cut you a break, or may have overlooked something. The judge is not bound to the citation, he's bound by the law. If the law is tougher than the citation, that's fair.

Look, sometimes judges WILL drop fines some, or dismiss a ticket entirely, but if they did that every single time someone fights a ticket, don't you think everyone would fight every ticket?

It's fair. You were offered a break and didn't see it was a break.

Not sure who told you that by going to Court you would end up paying less. Had the ticket been dismissed, then yes, or if you have ZERO dings on your record, then maybe, but as someone else pointed out, what is the point of the system if everyone who fights it gets a break?

You have just learned a valueable lesson, don't believe everything you hear.

Keep your open containers inside and you shouldn't have this problem anymore.
Good luck.

Did he raise the fine or were you simply made to pay court costs for contesting the ticket? Generally any time you take a ticket to court you will be made to pay an additional amount for processing unless you are found not guilty and released from paying any of the fees.

Were you late paying this fine? I mean.. usually when you get a ticket for a violation it is for a set amount! This ticker according to what you have stated doubled from original amount of $97.00?? I think they're is something you are leaving out here!

It appears the Judge didn't appreciate your attitude. The listed fine amount is not the max, its what you pay if you just pay it. the judge has the discretion to fine you any amount that is within the range called for by the statute. I think he was telling you that you really would have been better off if you hadn't opened your mouth.

That's what you get for listening to the Yahoo! Lawyers on here that tell everyone to fight every ticket.

If you contested the citation, and lost, then there were court fees added.
