At 39, I went back to school to study music. I got my BA in music and then got a BSc in Performing Arts. Then I went and got my master's in human resources development and now I'm working on my MBA. I'm 45 now, will be 46 when the MBA is done. 6 years, four degrees.

Point is, you are not too old to go back to school (it's actually a lot easier at our age) and it doesn't take all that long to get qualified in any field you want (except maybe medicine).

The real question is - what would you like to be doing in 20 years? I'm thinking you might like to be retired by then. Some more education would certainly help with a goal like that.

My experience is this:

In this world, as a general rule, there is typically no better or worse, just different. There are a number of other careers to pursue, but ask yourself this: Given the amount of education and the strength of the resume, what will those things be? and will it be worth the change in career? Usually, you are stuck going back to school to waste money, or getting another job that you will ultimately like about as much as the one you have. It's your choice.

I think you need to find a job in an industry that fascinates you. Keep your same role as you can more easily break into say an Advertising agency as a secretary than as a newbie trying to get into that field.

You might even find that if you move to a more interesting company you won't mind the job any more.

Or... find a start up company.. that needs MANY things.. this way you bring skills but you can diversify into marketing/sales/management etc.

Well....first of all.....you need to ask yourself what it is you would like to do as far a career. It seems that you must not be enjoying your place of work currently. What was the dream job that you always wanted to do as a child?? Go for it! What I am saying is simple.....do something that you'll love doing and be fulfilled at doing.
