play an instrumental cd very low and/or read a book.
DO NOT start taking the nyquil, you will start to become dependent on it. Also, that stuff is so strong it just shuts your body down, (it gets you so weak, that you have no choice but to lay down), and you still may not be able to sleep.
Your body clock my have changed. In other words, it only gets sleepy at a certain time. So just, reprogram it. Stay up all day and all night for 1 day (no naps or anything), then go to bed at the time you would like to be able to go to sleep every night (say 10:00 pm) and then go to bed at that time and every night thereafter. In less than 2 weeks your body clock will start to change and at 10:00 pm without looking at a clock, your body will be sleepy.
Also, if you are taken some type of pills and drinks (such as energy drinks) that may be the reason why you cannot sleep. So, if that is the case, take them at an earlier time during the day, before 12:00 noon, if possible, so that your insides have time to burn/use it up.
Come back and let us know your results please.

You really should stop taking Nyquil. Your parents are right. Its not good to take it all the time like that when you don't need to. Find relaxing things to do before you go to bed. Read a book, drink some chamomile tea, anything BUT taking Nyquil. And don't worry so much about not being able to sleep. If you stress yourself out about it you'll keep yourself awake.

I wouldn't take NyQuil as a sleep aid because it has other drugs and alcohol that you don't need. Tylenolpm is non addictive but should check with Doc depending on age,I would always seek Doctors advice for any chronic problem that disturbs your life. Meditation works wonders for me.Cut your caffeine and soda's down especially in the evening and exercise promotes better sleep. Do you have anxiety because that plays a role also. There are natural sleep aids as well.

Dear sweetie I do sympathise I have a similar problem but eh sleep is like being dead so I reckon the longer I am awake the more I have lived.
Unless some subliminal noise is keepin youawake I>E> low frequency sounds cause disturbance to th middle ear and that can keep one awake.
My advice is give the drugs away they will I repeat They will wreck your mind.
Stay up all night once it gets light get outside and if it is safe to do so go for a long long walk. cut down sugars I.E. carbs keep busy all day, if you then cannot sleep repeat.
drink lots of water keep repeating until you feel so tired you will sleep.
WE are disturbed if we constantly go to bed and can't sleep this becomes a psychological factor.
If you are old enough and it is okay with whom ever you live with the after two nights of keeping yourself awake as suggested buy a bottle of port or brandy use no mixers do not start drinking until it would be an hour before your bed time have enough drink to make you feel drowsy go to bed after drinking water when you are in bed do as I do complicated mental arithematic the energy required to do the calculations inside your head willl soon send you to sleeeeep you will sleeeeep soundly this will refresh you n once you are awake do not lay in get up keep busy do not eat to many carbs no coffee or tea. keep this advice trust me it works.

I have had this problem for years and recently got OFF of sleep meds and here are a few tricks my doctors have told me
1. don't use your bed for anything but sleeping(and sex) so your mind knows that it's time to sleep when you crawl into bed(read on the couch)
2.Don't eat before bed. When you eat you get extra energy and if you don't use the energy it turns into fat.
3.Relax, drink tea, have a bath, read a book. do something that will help you wind down for the day
4.go to sleep at or around the same time every day. That helps normalize your sleep habits and you will start to feel tired around the same time.
If those don't work, there are prescription meds for the purpose of insomnia, talk to a doctor.

Do not keep taking NyQuil. You need to not rely on medicine to be able to sleep.
What I do is first take a bath. Have a bedtime ritual that you do to make you more tired- like first a bath, then brush teeth, then pajamas, then read a chapter etc.
A great natural sleep aid is melatonin. Also 5-HTP. Try those if the above doesn't help, and good luck.

Try to get to bed earlier (I know...) BY 10:00 is crucial. This will keep the "circadian rhythm" in check. 10:00 to 2:00 is when your body gets the most benefit of sleeping. Also, set your alarm for 8 or 8 1/2 hours after you go to sleep, and GET OUT OF BED. It's hard but you have to do it. After a few days it won't be so hard. Waking up in the morning is the most critical part of going to bed at night. However, and I know that no one will agree with me on this one. I have issues with insomnia myself and mine stems from stress, my brain won't turn off you know? So it's either smoke a little weed or have a glass of wine or one beer. (One drink is enough to make me calm down, and for the past couple of years I have been trying to keep things legal.) This in turn helps me nod off, and to all those people who say alcohol is bad for your sleep, go kill yourself, because this girl is having problems falling asleep, not staying asleep. Also I would ixnay on the NyQuill it could cause problems with your sleep in the long haul. ;*D Good luck!

NyQuil has a lot of other medication in it that you simply don't need! They have many products out there that help you sleep. Its like the Tylenol PM stuff, without the Tylenol, but I cant think of the name of it right now.
I'd say go to your local pharmacist and they'd be able to recommend something.
