How big of a difference is there in the look of brush nickel and brush steel?

Nickel has a softer tone, a bit more brownish-gray than straight 'silver', which would have a more blue/white tone.

They are close enough to match for fan downrods, hinges, etc, that aren't under direct scrutiny. I might be more careful mixing tones on things that are under direct light, or in primary view (unless you wanted to see the different tones).

Brush Nickel is my choice. It should be a matte finish look. I have worked with wood and cabinets for forty years. Ask for a samples to see the different. Good Luck.

Wow! Okay! The heart attack has passed!
Your question says "Bush nickel". I thought, "Oh, don't tell me that he want to be on the nickel."

Okay, to answer your question, I honestly don't know. Go to Home Depot or some place like that and ask to see example of each and judge for yourself.
