all made solely for cable? TV's used to pick up several channels without cable, do they sell these old designs anymore?

>Do they sell tv's that get "air" channels anymore

That would be all TVs. If a set doesn't have a over the air (OTA) tuner, then it is a monitor and not a TV.

Look at the specs for a TV (in the US), the NTSC tuner is for receiving analog OTA channels and the ATSC tuner is for receiving digital OTA channels.

The analog broadcasts are going to shut down after 2/17/09, so older TV's that only have a NTSC tuner will need a converter box to receive OTA broadcasts after that cutoff date.

Yes they do....LOOK for TV sets with the ATSC tuner for "over the air" channels....

Cable tuners are called QAM tuners...they're built into the ATSC tuners

I don't think so, but you can still but "rabbit ears" that plug into the cable jack on the tv
