You should definitely gain weight. It is not healthy for the baby if you are not gaining weight.

Instead of being so scrupulous about calories, listen to your body, if you seem to be more hungry eat...if your not then don't eat as much. Your babies needs will vary and that's why our cravings are heightened at this time. Just eat well all the time! Concentrate on that instead of how much. If your a person who naturally eats well and doesn't binge, then you shouldn't have a problem. Also, exercise! Yes, you will gain weight, it's natural and normal! Gaining a healthy 25 lbs or so is normal, however gaining 40 or 50 isn't. But don't stress about that, if your doing everything right during pregnancy, the weight will come off quickly after wards!
Foods to eat:
fruits
veggies
whole grains
proteins (no nitrates or processed meats and avoid pork and beef, eat only when craving for necessary nutrients)
Dairy (eat a limited amount of high fat dairy, like cheese, cream cheese, butter)
NO SUGAR!

Look the babies health is what you need to be thinking about and not your weight. Do not get in the midset of trying not to gain weight and then purposely cutting down on calories you may need to substain the growth of the baby.
If you eat normally and don't go too overboard you will be fine.
Stay away from too many sweets, sodas, coffee, etc. Things you know aren't that great for you. The empty calories.
Eat lots of fresh fruits, veggies, lean meats, carbs, and get in good Folic acid- this is the most important mineral for the baby.
I didn't eat enough and I had a preemie that weighed a little over 4 pounds- a lot more than they thought, but I was so darn sick thru my entire pregnancy. I was fortunate that she came out healthy, but just small. Some people aren't that lucky. My heath suffered too because she took everything from me regardless of me putting it into my body so I became anemic.
Just eat, be happy and enjoy your pregnancy and stop obsessing about the weight. Your OB will tell you if you are on mark for gaining the right weight and if not she will let you know what to do. Congrats!!

You may not want to gain weight but you are going to, and how much depends on you. You should consider a well balanced diet, but consult your doctor about the amount of calories you should be eating, remeber your eating for two.
Plenty of vegetables anytime are great and make great snacks. You should also consider eating more fish and chicken, turkey and seafood then red meat.
You should figure about 25pounds plus the weight of the baby in additonal weight. The main thing is that you start exercising as soon as you have delivered, this is going to help get ride of the excess fat the body has stored and it's much easier to start then, instead of putting it off and saying when the babies 6 month old I will start. By the time the baby is 6 months old you will have gained another 10 pounds.
So best of luck, it's not easy.

You have to gain weight during pregnancy, but most of it should just be the baby and all that comes along with it (amniotic fluid, increased blood and fluids). When you have a baby it's a common misconception that you are "EATING FOR TWO". Alot of women use this as an excuse to go buckwild at the buffet. If you ask your doctor he will tell you that you only require an additional 300 calories a day per baby which is only like an extra sandwich or just a glass of whole milk. I had twins so I ate 600 calories extra. I followed this rule and managed to fit back into my size 4 pants like a week after I got out of the hospital, as soon as my uterus had shrunk back to normal size.

If you want your baby to be really healthy, i'd suggest eating just regular foods, just minus caffine and like, Mcdonalds and all that fast food stuff. There is no way that you cannot NOT gain weight when you're pregnant...after the baby is born, I would suggest working out or maybe just cutting down on deserts and whatnot. Also, you still want to be healthy if you breastfeed the baby, otherwise it's bad milk. You don't want your baby to be a little skinny unhealthy baby, so I suggest being HEALTHY and gaining WEIGHT for your baby. It doesn't hurt to be on the heavy side a little bit. Also, it's reallllllly a good sign if your baby is plump.
I don't know if I've helped at all.

As stated above, weight gain is healthy for the baby. Do not get all worked up on the weight issue as regards youself, the baby's requirements must come first. The weight you gain is the weight you gain, so what, be happy you are about to become a Mother, the most improtant job in the world.

Of course you will need to gain weight for the health of your baby - you will be gaining the baby's weight plus a healthy cushion for sustenance. What I suggest is simply following a healthy diet in general - lots of fruits and veggies, good fats (i.e. mono and polyunsaturated), very low cholesterol, lean meats, whole grains, and organic when possible. Eat when you are hungry and stop when you are full. Your body should know how much food you need to ingest to be healthy in your pregnancy. Pay attention to those physical cues.
Remember to keep active; exercise throughout your pregnancy. You and your baby will be healthier for it and continuing the practice after childbirth will melt any extra pounds right off.

You are going to gain some weight. Keep to your doctor's plan for eating and exercise. Never exercise without doctor's okay. If you aren't gaining weight, you will have problems.
Each woman's body is different, some gain weight without eating a lot, others very little but eat all the time. Go with your doctor's plans and what your body tells you.

You don't need any extra weight, but about 20 lbs is associated with the baby, placenta, uterus changes and amniotic fluid. Eat properly and don't eat snacks with high sugars and fats, drink lots of water, take your vitamins and get exercise every day. I gained 50 pounds with my first, only 24 pounds with my second. I lost almost all the weight from the second pregnancy within a couple months - NURSING takes off pounds right away.

You need to gain some weight as the baby weighs some as it developes. Just eat healthy meals but be sure you are getting enough calories and get plenty of exercise and you will be fine. Lots of fresh fruits and veggies are great along with lean cuts of meats. Stay away from soda and drink juice and water.
