well you have to be 18 to get anything pierced, but I would say everything else, 16.

It's different for every family. Nose piercings get infected often, plus they're ugly. How do you blow your nose? Anyway, that I'd say 18--you live in my house, you have my rules. If you're 18 and get it pierced, don't come back to live with me. Dye hair, 15 or 16, makeup, 13 or 14 if it's light--no hooker makeup! Contacts, whenever. Usually I'd wait until 14 or 15 when your eyes are closer to the adult size or you're going to keep needing new ones. Upgraded cell phone--you shouldn't have a phone at all, much less an upgraded one until you're 16 and driving. As for a boyfriend, I'd say 16 on that, too.

I've let my daughter, 9, have a couple colored streaks in her hair.. for dying or highlights though, she'll have to be 16.
Make up 14-16.. depends on the kid. I really don't think the way teenage girls wear their makeup today is appropriate for daytime wear.
I got contacts at 14. If and when the time comes, I'll do the same for my children.
Boyfriend.. eh.. depends on the child. Between 13-16, I could see allowing them to hang out with a boy with proper supervision.
Any piercings besides ears, 18. I have a nose piercing.. I had to wait til I was out of my parents' house to get it.
Cell phone 16.

Why not now?

I think you shouldn't want or need make-up. You're beautiful just the way you are! (But if you're that insecure about it, talk to your parents.)

Carpe Diem! (Just remember, don't get in any "big-time" relationships. Dr. James Dobson says that people shouldn't make lifetime commitments until they're 21, and that's if they've been together for at least two years.)

What's wrong with contacts? Just tell your parents you want contacts, and hope the insurance pays for them!

I personally would NEVER go out with a girl who had a nose piercing. It's just creepy.

I think you should get a cell phone when you're 21. I know it's a long wait, but cell phones commonly turn people into snobs. If you already have a cell phone, then you need to wait until you can afford an upgraded one before you get an upgraded one.

If you have to ask, you probably know yourself what works in your family. I think you are a smart girl and I bet you know what some of the answers are going to be. We can give our opinions here but really what matters is what your parents will say - for quite some time.

Just some personal thoughts:

Hair: you don't need to dye your hair until it gets gray - you can add highlights if you want, but dye is expensive in salons and messy at home. Besides, as your hair grows you will have one more major personal maintenance item to fix all the time. Kind of a pain.

Make up - don't overdo it, you will look like a clown or a hooker. Go for a little eyeliner and mascara and lip gloss. Done.

Boyfriend - You can have boyfriends at any age, but it is what you are willing to give up of yourself that matters. Don't compromise yourself ever just to be cool or hang on to a boy. Stay smart and focused on school and if the boys come around be very aware of their motives and reasons for wanting to be with you. You can enjoy spending them without needing them too much- a needy girl gets in trouble, every time.

Contacts - no opinion - fine by me.

Nose pierce - have never understood the attraction of a nose pierce. More importantly, this has got to be a prime place for infection. A rule of thumb when you do anything that alters your body - do you ALWAYS want to have that alteration, or just sometimes - if you are not sure, don't do it. In general I just think nose pierces on kids are silly - what are you trying to look like? Also, there are more drug resistant infections going around - any open wound is a target. Yuck.

Cellphone - no opinion - ask your mom.

Just have fun with your friends, and keep talking to your parents - these are the most important things a teenager can do - everything else will come along when YOU decide you are honestly ready. Be honest with yourself. And obey your parent's rules - they may not always seem fair, but learning to deal with it now is the best thing you can do for yourself.

Well, my mom let me dye my hair and get highlights when I was 14, but it had to be a natural color, nothing like purple or green. I was never really into make up, but she would've been OK with some natural colors as well and lip gloss, like clear or my lip color.
I had my first boyfriend when I was 15, she wasn't thrilled, but she got used to it.
Contacts were never an issue as soon as the doctor said it was OK for me to wear them.
I'm 23, so I didn't get my own cell phone until I was 17, just because they were more expensive back then.
My nose got pierced at 16, after 2 years of whining and begging, my mom went with me to ensure everything was the way she wanted it to be, and it had to be tiny.
Hope this helps.

I'm 11 and wear eye makeup and lip gloss to school. get contacts, I would say 12-13 is a good age. Get a nose piercing, um.. I say never, but if you want, I would say 15-16. Get a cell phone, 13-14 (whenever you start middle school, and need to stay after school for sometime). have a boyfriend, 15-16. Maybe 14, but I wouldn't want one at 14! hair: well for highlights I say 14-15. For entire head I say 16-17.

I would say the hair with the highlights you can do right now. For the make-up I would wait till your 14-16 to start doing that. Having a boyfriend I would really wait on that one till your 25 or at least till you have your career (whatever that maybe) underway, if you can't hold out that long than at least wait till your out of high school. Contacts you can get now. Nose pierce I wouldn't get at all. Cellphone upgrade get it now if you can afford it.

Just remember life goes by way to fast. Enjoy your young teenage years. You will have time later on in life to do whatever you want. Take it easy. Take one step at a time. Dyeing you hair to much will ruin it and you will regret it as you get older. Wearing make up will also damage you face. having a boyfriend will make you grow up really fast, you will get your heart broken, or will have to make an adult decision, or will turn you into an adult really fast, your Dr. is the only only one who can tell you if you need contacts, if you want to become a professional person when you are an adult you are going to regret piercing your nose. Don't make childish decisions that are going to affect you in the future.

This is what I think:

dye my hair (highlights too) At least 17.
wear make-up 15
have a boyfriend 16 and then only group dates or events at my house
get contacts When you can pay for them unless you have a medical reason.
get a nose piercing 18
and get a upgraded cellphone when you pay for it on your own.

You may want this stuff, but some of it a 12 year old is not ready for.

My children (3 boys, 1 girl) aren't allowed to dye their hair, have a cell phone or get any piercings except for ears, and my daughter has to wait until she is 13 for that. The boys don't get them at all - which seems obvious to me, but I do leave the house on occassion so I know better. Other piercings are not welcome in my home. Period. If they get them when they move out and support themselves they can remove them if they want to visit. Make up she has to wait until she is 15. Should they need contacts, they would have to be at least 15, but probably not until they go to college... if they even want them. I don't see the need for them at all. Boyfriends/Girlfriends... 16.
