I was in hospital once and given 'Cyclizine' for nausea. It made me what I can only describe as "hyper-aroused". For example, when somebody came around the corner to see me, it was like having an electric current put through my body! A real startled feeling. I also have it with Prochloperazine (Stemetil™), and the anti-depressant Mirtazapine (Remeron™) which I have recently been prescribed. I'd like to know what is causing this? I only get it with medications that have anti-histamine properties though. It's getting to the point now that somebody has only got to call my name from behind me, and I jump out of the chair as an involuntary reaction.

these are common sideeffects with those types of drugs, suggest you talk to your doctor about getting something besides remeron, I use effexor now because of the same problem, took a while to find that one for me, so be patient, keep trying.

It will be because of the presence of the drug 'ephedrine' which is used or included as a decongestant. It is a stimulant and if over used or abused can make you tetchy and jumpy.

I am also prescribed Effexor but find that they have too much of a drowsy effect some days. It can be difficult to find a happy medium. Also if I don't take my medication (God that sounds really bad!) at the same time every day then I suffer with the same type of symptoms as you describe, only with the added dizziness of a vertigo-like feeling. I know exactly what you mean when you say that it feels like an electric current through your body! I have a appointment at the doctors this week to discuss my options.

There's an adverse side effect to every substance taken into one's body, including air. Everyone reacts unfavourably to anti-histamines but it's a matter of degree. Your reaction is very severe. Perhaps you should be looking for substitutes for Stemetil and Remeron?

No medical knowledge, but I hope you have told your Doctor? See if this site has 'drug reactions' listed; http://www.webmd.com
I have a very low tolerance to any medication and take children doses or I have the same reactions you describe but not so severe. I'm sure it is not normal. Ask Doc if you can reduce intake and see if that helps. But ask first, before changing any prescribed medicine! Good luck!

Please see the web pages for more details on Cyclizine, Prochlorperazine (generic name) Stemetil (brand name), Mirtazapine (generic name) Remeron (brand name). You should tell the doctor about the side effects of the medicine.
