it is my belief that we all have moral standards and know the difference between right and wrong at a young age.
it is also my belief that the reasoning of our actions, come in three different stages...
1) we do the right thing because we fear the consequences
2) we do the right thing because it is the right thing to do
3) we do the right thing because there is nothing more that gives us joy then doing this
just my humble pagan thoughts

Christians dont care about what is right and wrong in the real world, only what is right and wrong according to the many different interpretations of the same book that has been interpreted many ways many times over many years. Next year something else that was wrong today, will be right tomorrow so long as some priest says so. They are the sheep, and the priests are the ones holding the crooks, shepherding them around here and there as they see fit, and to the most benefit of their little society. They need more money, move the sheep, get more money. Need some law passed, move the sheep, get it passed, need a tyrant president, shift the sheep, they will elect him. Its all very lovely. Especially since many of them dont validate what they are told, just follow blindly. Baaaaaaah Baaaaaaaaaaah.

Believers are lucky in that they don't need to waste all their time thinking about what is right or wrong because they are told by the church. Only problem is sometimes the church has different opinions, depending on who interprets the rule book. Oh, and the other problem is that because the idea of right and wrong isn't internalized, if they don't have their bible with them, they are kinda screwed because they can't look up how to act in a given situation.

the only message that I follow is God and his son, Jesus; I don't follow anything else; I am not so bold or arrogant to believe that I know the workings of the universe when man has had no input in it nor can we figure out our own bodies, the spark of life or death ; the world and universe work regardless of us; so how can you think that God isn't real and that sheep just follow ; nonbelievers believe that they know better than life's essence past present and future ; what shepard do they follow or believe; their own mind that didn't have any input into their own creation, their life force and was a creation that was done not did themselves.

Adam and Eve's sin was that they wanted to experience & decide for themselves what was right and wrong. Instead of listening to God and obeying him, they wanted to determine ethics for themselves. That's what got us into the trouble that the human race is in today.
Everybody is following after their own hearts and desires, determining the course of their life for themselves instead of fully trusting and obeying what God has revealed to be the standards of conduct for life.
Only by listening to the one Being who is infinitely morally superior to ourselves can we learn more about how to be a good person.
Following Jesus like sheep gauarantees that we are headed in the right direction & actually growing to understand what is truly right and wrong - not just what the culture/our friends/our families/or our whims say is right and wrong.

This isn't so much an answer, but if you are interested in this type of think you should read 'A Clockwork Orange', that's the main point of the entire book in my opinion. Does God want us to do (and are we better people if we do) what others tell us is right, or is it better to do what you truly feel is right?

That's the ultimate goal, to know the truth and be set free. Second best is following like sheep, at least it keeps people from getting into too much trouble.

Well, we aren't born with our morals...we do learn them from our environment, parents, friends, teachers....etc. A man marrying a 12 year old would be wrong here because that's what we believe, however in other cultures...that is something that is correct.
We know it is wrong to steal because that is what we've been taught. If there weren't any laws about stealing, or our parents never told us it was wrong...would we think it was right?

I love your question. I have a hunch that you aren't a Christian? I think that we ALL, Christian and non alike are limited to our education (in life in general) and our experience as to how and what we believe to be true. (and it evolves and changes as we learn, grow and experience!) There is a difference in the reasons people follow or believe in what ever that happens to be. Some maybe for social acceptance. Some because their families do the same. But what we believe - THAT is the $1,000,000.00 question, and what we all have to figure out! Isn't it?

I think if u realy believe in what u r doing/following, then u will feel it in ur heart. Then no one can tell u much because u r going with what u feel. Way better.
