"Ever see a tornado assemble an airplane? Airplanes take intelligence to design and build. The universe, and our DNA is far more complex... must have required far more intelligence to make it all work as well as it does."
Why is this a common argument against evolution? Evolution is talking about thousands of years of adaptations and mutations. not some randomly thrown together product. Do people really buy into this junk that some being just threw everything together exactly how it is?

does it matter whether I am for or against? would that effect your answer at all?
I am against arguments that are illogical such as comparing evolution to a tornado putting an airplane together

John316 im sorry but bible quotes really do not answer any question. Most people, whether believers or not, realize that the bible was written by man and is more of a ficitonal text to explain what we cannot understand and give lessons on how to live. not direct word and fact. Show me proof and fact and evidence in creationism. so far all I have seen is "God said so in the bible"

The argument was first advanced by the charmingly dotty and frequently wrong Professor Fred Hoyle - who distinguished himself scientifically by proposing the Steady State hypothesis, in which atoms were spontaneously created as space expanded. This didn't last long as an hypothesis, mostly because it was incorrect.
His 'tornado in a scrapyard' scenario received far more attention than it deserved, and demonstrates nothing but a comprehensive ignorance about the basic operation of evolution. naturally, other people who don't understand how evolution works think it's the bee's knees as an argument.
Another Wrong Thing from the House of Hoyle.

Of course not . It's far more believable that some big bozo took his magic wand and mumbled , " hokus-pokus dominokus " , and there it all was.
Evolution is only believed by scientists and intelligent people . All the rest of us know a magic wand is far more believable .
What's so hard about making something as simple as the world , if you have the right words . Lets see if we can duplicate it with an Abbara kadabra . You get the magic wand.

Until junkyards get together in the night and produce little machines 9 months later it will always be a strawman argument.
The idoits who use this analogy have zero understanding of evolution, that it is a process that requires things that can replicate themselves. That it is not random, just not pre-determined.

Because some dumb-*** wants to say that the process of evolution and abiogenesis are the same thing and they want to be stubborn and say that there's no way God and the process of evolution can exist simultaneously even though the world works in a logical way and evolution follows that logic. Why not say God can't exist along with gravity, or the electromagnetic spectrum? Seriously, dumb-asses.

It's an effective argument when the target isn't much of a critical thinker, or wants to agree with the speaker. The fact that it's comparing apples and internal combustion engines isn't really relevant.

I always wonder "Ever seen plants, animals, mountains, lakes, hurricanes, tides, dirt, etc. created by anything other than natural processes that do not involve any intelligent being (aside from the animals choosing to have intercourse, perhaps)?

I dont know why they try to disprove evolution so much... Abiogenesis is a much higher threat to fundies, or The big bang theory. They label all this as "Evolution". Its like trying to stop war, genocide and mass murder by convicting simple assault.

People believe in junk because religious authorities like to lie and to have control over the beliefs of large groups of people. If people actually knew about science they would be less likely to become victims to the charlatans.
