That's all I can do right now because of an injury. But I love using my recumbent bike. I keep a stack of magazines, my mp3 player, a crossword book and pen and paper right next to it. I usually read while riding. I try to use it for at least 30 minutes. I used to go 45 to 60 minutes whenever possible. But you can break it up too. I just have it on the easy setting. And what I'd do is petal fast for a bit get my heart rate up and keep it at that pace for a couple minutes and then bring it down a bit. Until my breathing was kinda normal. Then go fast again for a few minutes.

I go to a class called RPM. It lasts 50 minutes to an hour and I use the settings along the range of medium to very difficult. We change the settings thru-out the class.
