Being witty can be learned, and it is a great tool for getting rid of jerks and bullies.

First, develop a few stock phrases to use when people step over your boundaries uninvited. Some I use are.

"Whatever . . . ."
This works when some idiot gives an impassioned diatribe against you. Delivered with a shrug and noncommital bored look, it is powerful.

"You have no life. Find something better to do."
This is when someone plays a stupid practical joke, or tries to insult you. Deliver it as a wise person would, and you win every time!

"And that matters to me because . . .?"
This is a classic you can create on the spot. It even works if someone tries to insult your mother! Don't take it lying down, and when you throw it back at them, do it in a way that they can't even argue with!

Start with these, or a few you make up that are like them. Be sure to leave the room immediately after you make your statement, so that it doesn't turn into a pointless argument.

Once you get delivery down pat, you'll begin to think of original comebacks on the spot. It can take years to perfect being spontaneously witty, but you can look great with practiced wit in the meantime.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step.

You cannot change who you are. Some can just say anything without fear. Some can tell you the God honest truth without sugar coatings and some need more tact. You sound like you need more tact. The best way to deal with jerks is to IGNORE them! Name calling, hey, sticks and stones, brother! Let it slide off your back. They will eventually back off and lose interest. Try hanging out different places and avoiding the jerks if possible. If not, as long as they don't become physical (that's a different story entirely), move away and ignore them.

nora hit it on the head i really like and this matters to me because... that is a back handeded insult to someone!

Someone used this on me! I didn't think i was being a jerk but i guess i was! i did back down when someone said that to me!
more over when my response was

someone= and this matters to me how/
me= it don't damn i'm sorry i'm a beeitch!

then i walked away it was a nice way of my friend to show me where my attitude lies! and well that's stlil a work in progress!

one thing that worked for me is ignoreing them really peeps like this are not worth your time!
if i want to learn something from them i just play it off oh shut up you dork i just want to know xyz you going to help me or be a smart asprin all day!???

The mature way to handle "jerks" is to be polite and respectful. Being rude back will only make it worse. Sometimes even ignoring a jerk will make them worse. However, my advice to you is just to ignore their rude comments, and speak to them nicely. You don't need to be "witty" or say anything back to them to look like the better person. Remember, treat people the way you expect them to treat you.

I handle jerks with nothing but the truth, and also ignoring them.

treat people with kindness and respect...you can't be taught to be witty, I don't think...don't worry about what others think...
