I would tell him that you've been offered a new job that pays more money, tell him that you don't want to leave, but the opportunity to make more money is important to you. This will give him that chance to offer you more money. I will stress that honesty is always best, and don't wait to tell him, you need to give a notice if they can't match what your going to make. Another thing to look at is that they might offer you a raise to stay and not the full salary of the new job, you need to look at the whole picture: benefits like insurance, paid vacations, personal days, sick days. Good luck in your decision.

Throw an office party and then when he asks whats going on....put a party hat on him and blow a noisemaker in his face and say, "SEE YA." haha thats what I'd do...no seriously just talk to him, he might offer you more money to stay.

Just let him know that you have received another offer. Don't tell him what you will be making. He will either counter offer, or you congratulate you.
