When I was a kid in the 1950' & 60's, we had an enormous number of children in our neighborhood. The schools were overflowing with kids. Yet not one child had a peanut allergy. We all ate PB&J sandwiches and other peanut products all the time. Not one occurrance of this allergy. Now it seems like everyone I ask knows at least one person suffering from it. It just seems odd. Where did all of these cases come from? Some say it was always around but I am sure we would have heard about a kid dropping dead from eating a peanut.

We had them back then, I just don't think we heard about it as much. Asthma and other allergies however are on the rise. Research shows it is from many factors, including the environment, smoking, and other factors.
I think we hear more now due to the fact we have much more media coverage, more education, and a much bigger population.
