I'm curious as to what year this occurred. I researched Florida's newspapers, and could only find articles related to a nationwide crackdown on certain holidays. Your information appears to be totally incorrect.

The only reference in the 60 Minute site I found concerning your topic was on the website listed below.
Even if not related to your 60 Minute segment it still concerns the topic of DWI.
In order to take a case to court the police had better have pretty good evidence or the case gets thrown out before even reaching the courts.
One article found states that some people were showing less than .02% bac and in one case .00% bac and were still arrested.
You have to remember that "intoxicated driving" does not just mean alcohol intoxication.
The sobriety tests given determine motor skills that are applied when operating a motor vehicle. If you are intoxicated by alcohol or other drugs...its and arrestable offense.
There is a National DWI crackdown because of the amounts of fatalities brought about by intoxicated drivers. This includes any intoxicant that inhibits ones ability to drive safely.
You don't quote any story in particular and to say police have DWI quota's is ludicrous. One could find an intoxicated driver every hour of the shift on a weekend in a small town let alone in a large city. So there is no reason to play upon innocent victims.
Maybe you should provide better facts before making such blatant statements against those who are attempting to make the roads safer for you and your family!

Cite your source by posting a link to the story. It is possible to be arrested for DWI and not register a 0.08 or higher.
1). In my state if your under 21 yoa then you will be arrested if you have any alcohol in your system.
2). If your level of impairment (i.e. you demonstrate intoxication by being unable to perform simple divided attention tests) shows that you are unfit to operate a motor vehicle then you could be arrested for DWI (and convicted) even if you blow under 0.08.
3). In the situation listed in #2 above you can be arrested if the officer has probable cause to believe you are intoxicated. If the driver blows under a 0.08 then they can be released after the breath test with no charges filed.
4). You are under the influence of drugs (even ones you have a prescription for).
Don't drink and drive.

If those people had not had a drink, the truth WILL be exposed, and I expect several lawsuits to occur.
The police aren't always great, honest, or right, in many things they do.....
Sorry, it's just a fact.
In Virginia, you may run into a road block, anywhere, anytime, and they will usually only request your drivers license and registration. If, however, they believe you have been drinking, they will ask you to pull off of the road, and test you. Fail the test, go to jail for the night....

People could fight that. The police must take you for blood test if you don't agree to the other test. Many of us don't drink at all so arresting for DWI would be very wrong.

That's Florida. In NJ, the cops will give you a free ride home no questions, just so you don't drive drunk. If you drive drunk, you will be arrested.

they also have to pick a certain number of people up a month for things like in my town now they have to catch a lot of speeders but alot of people aren't speeding.it was said whom ever have the fewest speeders but the end of the fiscal year would be the last to pick their vacation days.it might be the same thing in Florida right now but things like this really sucks.

WAS IT DWI OR DUI?
DUI IS DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE USUALLY .50 + IN MOST STATES (USA).
DWI-DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED. THE LINE BETWEEN INTOXICATION AND INFLUENCE IS THAT OF:
1. ABOUT 15-20 MIN. (ABSORBTION-SO WOULD HAVE BEEN DRUNK EARLIER, LIKE WHEN LEFT PARTY OR BAR)
2. 1 DRINK MORE
3. REGISTERED AT.49 AND UNDER CLOSE BUT NOT QUITE.(USUALLY TO ABOUT .31)
THEIR DRIVING WAS ERRATIC, OR SOMETHING, ALERTED THE OFFICER TO THEM BEING WHAT S/HE FELT WAS BEING INTOXICATED?
IF NOT, VERY CLOSE TO A DUI, OR THEY COULD BE A DUI?
DO NOT KNOW UNTIL STOPPED, GIVEN A STREET SOBRIETY TESTER.
IT WAS SAFER TO TAKE THE FLACK, THEN HAVE THIS PERSON, DRIVING ON ANOTHER BLOCK OR TWO, CAUSING A FATAL ACCIDENT.(REMEMBER WE JUST STOPPED S/HE, I'M NOW THE SCAPE GOAT EITHER WAY. THIS IS ONE OF THOSE DAMED IF YOU DO AND DAMED IF YOU DO NOT SITUATIONS. LAW ENFORCEMENTS DICSRETIONARY POWERS TO ARREST OR LET GO??
WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE?
I AM SURE THE DEPT HAS A CHECK FOR A BREATHALIZER OF .0-30 OK, .31 TO 49. DWI, .05 UP ARREST FOR DUI.
FROM THE WHO CARES DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION?
DID YOU KNOW THE HIGHER YOU GO TOWARDS A 1.50 +, WE HAVE TO TAKE YOU TO A HOSPITAL? DETOXIFICATION MEDICALLY.
*** NOTE**DWI IS NOT A DUI AND IS NOT CHARGED AGAINST MANY INSURANCES.***
WE USE TO TAKE DWI'S AND LET THEM BE PICKED UP AT THE SCENE.
THEN LOW AND BEHOLD, A COUPLE HAD A FIGHT, HE KICKED HER OUT OF THE JEEP, BROKE HER ARM, LACERATIONS ON FACE, ASSAULT, THEN WRECKED THE JEEP. HE ENDED UP WITH A BROKEN RIB, ANKLE, WRIST AND A HEAD INJURY. OUT OF WORK 7 MONTHS.
THEY WENT AFTER ME CIVIALLY BECAUSE I HAD RELEASED HIM WITH MY SERGEANTS APPROVAL. (BUT LEGALLY AT THAT TIME WE HAD THE DISCRETION TO LET GO AT THE SCENE IF SOMEONE SOBER, NOW A DESIGNATED DRIVER. OR SOMEONE WOULD PICK THEM UP WHO WAS SOBER.)
THEN THEY WENT AFTER MY SERGEANT. LEGAL RELEASE.
GUESS WHO GOT TO PAY FOR IT ALL? RIGHT, THE DEPARTMENT (TAXPAYERS MONEY). (+ PAIN AND SUFFERING, HOSPITAL EXPENSES, LOST WAGES $128,985--1978) THINK WE DID NOT CATCH MEDIA ATTENTION AFTER THAT? HAHAHA.
YOUR RIGHT IF YOU SAID "NOT ANY MORE." THE DEPARTMENT MADE IT A POLICY TO ARREST ALL WHO WERE BORDER LINE OR NOT DUI'S AND WE KEPT THEM IN THE JAIL TILL THEY WERE SOBER.30 AND BELOW. REMEMBER, IT JUST TAKES ONE A--HOLE TO RUIN IT FOR THOSE WHO FOLLOW?
