Agreed. I spoke about this on my radio program this weekend.
To Jesussaves.... Get a flippin life. Child molestation and sexual crimes have not a d**n thing to do with homosexuality. It's that kind of fundamentalist religious bigoted ignorant bull-crap that makes the situation so much harder to address. If you can't speak with truth or intelligence, keep your flippin' mouth shut. Child sexual abuse has NOTHING to do with homosexuality. There are a percentage of homosexuals who engage in this crime; about 10%. 90% of abusers are HETEROSEXUAL; You know the type, Good Christian church-going heterosexuals.
Probably (IMO) the greatest cause of sexual misconduct is growing up in a culture where sex is something that cannot be talked about; something to be feared, something mysterious and forbidden and dangerous .... you know ... the way churches talk - or rather, don't talk - about it. We live in a sexually immature country and think that NOT talking about sex in schools, keeping it this big mystery, keeping it hidden, telling kids that it's wrong, dangerous, mysterious and at the same time fun, wonderful, etc ... is not the way to raise adults who will know how to deal with sexual feelings.

It has nothing to do with marriage. Many of the teachers are married. It also isn't just men lately the women are making the news, but most people look the other way when it is a female teacher.
You must be careful of a witch hunt. Where I teach we also have cameras in every room. Each individual school needs to watch for this unfortunately public schools are too big to contro. I teach at a charter school I have 20 students with 2 adults in each classroom we have a total of 100 students. I believe it is the best system out there.

I see the point you are trying to make but that is not the cause and effect.
A vow of celibacy does not turn a priest into a child molester. Rather, some young men, upon realizing they have these tendencies *choose* the priesthood in hopes that the vow of celibacy will prevent them from acting on their impulses. Sometimes it works -- some men are able to live the chaste life that calling requires. And sometimes it doesn't.

I think they gave up on "old maid" school marms when my parents were kids. Do you really believe that a vow of celibacy turns someone into a pedophile? Pedophiles often marry and have families of their own and children whom they often molest. I know that child molestation is a real problem but I wonder if it's on the rise or perhaps we are just hearing about it more these days.

Pedophiles are everywhere. Luckily (although in many cases too late) schools are doing more comprehensive background checks on all employees and volunteers - not just teachers. The biggest problem is that kids either don't tell (for various reasons) or people don't listen to them.

It happens with priests not teachers!
Most of the teacher rapists are women seducing "jail bait" consentual young males!!!
Pity them. In pioneer times these matches would have been legal.
Statutory rape, by definition, is the lawmakers opinion, not the victim's! I feel worse about husbands forcing themseves on wives!
Priests (fighting homosexuality with celibacy) have been accused of raping alter boys. Stop them, but don't hate them. They were probably victims once too.
I know the nuns in the Catholic schools are forced to take a vow of celibacy, but not public school teachers.
I'd worry more about younger pre-schoolers being "helped" on bathroom breaks.
It is crazy to suggest that children in preschool are molested more or less than any other child.
In fact, most child-molestation happens from a family member. Most preschool rooms have more than one teacher.
All we can do is pray...and LISTEN to the children!
I believe false reporting DOES happen, BUT ... DON'T DISMISS TESTIMONY OF CHILDREN.
