With your nasal congestion, it could very well be sinus related. Go to your local pharmacy and buy some Delsym cough syrup. You will take it once every 12 hours. In the meantime and all between that 12 hours, ensure that you are drinking your fluids. Nothing can top water as being the best cough expectorant. The other symptoms you are describing are probably secondary due to the severe coughing. However, if you are very EXTREMELY short of breath, I always recommend my patients go to the ER immediately. Good luck to you!

You can't "cure" symptoms; you can only treat them. You have to focus on curing the underlying illness. Then the symptoms will also disappear.

If you think you have whooping cough, you should go to your doctor immediately. It is very contagious. Your doc will prescribe an antibiotic. Anyone you've come into close contact with should be tested for it and given antibiotics as well.

Anyother bacterial infection can also usually be cured with antibiotics.

If you have a viral infection, there's nothing you can do but treat the symptoms until your body beats the virus on its own.

The last time I had symptoms like yours; the doctor gave me antibiotics Amoxicillin and recommended over the counter Mucinex DM which is an expectorant and cough suppressant. The cough was so bad that I also had to chew cough drops like candy. I used a variety of cough drops such as Vicks, Ricola and Sucrets. Btw the doctor told me that I was very contagious so stay home. You could very well be contagious so stay home and get lots of rest.

have you been to the dr, you may have an infection and need stronger pills. as for help now, try a plain saline mist for the nose, it will help thin the mucus making it easier to get it out as well as it has a mild antibiotic effect. turn your shower on FULL BLAST HOT and let the steam build up to make a "sauna" sit in the room for awhile this will help with the cough. as for the pain , you may have "popped" a rib or pulled the muscles in your chest/back.
how long have you had this? have you seen a dr? what pills are you taking?

it would be helpful to know which pills you are taking. But if your symptoms are viral and not actually the whooping cough for which you would need antibiotics....then I recommend Zicam nasal swabs, use as directed on the package, I have found them able to minimize symptoms and shorten duration of any viral infection.

I would go to the doctor you could have pnuemonia or a bad cold. Try taking a hot shower to clear your nasals. Try some vicks vapor rub also.
