I have two cats, one of them when i smoke doesnt mind, he likes to watch the smoke patterns and he isnt bothered by me having the cigarette per se.
The other one however really doesnt like the smoking, or me when i have one..he'll give me little dirty looks, wont come near me and when he does jump near me when smoking as a soon as he realises, he chunters at me..makes his dipleasurable noises and runs away from me in a mood untill the smoke is gone??
He is a whilte cat and very sensitive, pink everywhere, thin skin, the other is more robust.
why doesnt he like it...does your cat do this ?

Yeah Stephanie B, i agree..i did'nt ask for advice on quitting..people get so uppity about smoking nowadays...I understand folks i shouldnt smoke & believe me I air the rooms the cats go in, i don't blow the smoke near him. I get the idea though you all think i'm a terrible cat owner because i smoke too...

believe it or not, animals see smoke/burning odour, any smoke/burning odour but particularly the odour of burning tobacco as a sign of danger... of course years and years of domestication may have removed this "instinct" from several individual animals but as a whole it still holds true. A fire in nature means death to animals so they learn to stay away from it instinctively

I have Abyssinian cats. My oldest one, who just passed away at age 19, bit 9 people on the hands and nose......all smokers.
Many years ago, when my brother was still smoking, he would come over to visit and he would smoke in my house. Rika would go NUTS! He was a big time cat lover, but Rika would bite him whenever he tried to touch her.
Fortunately, he thought it was funny!
So, yes, I have seen this and I doubt it has anything to do with skin or fur color, but more to do with the dislike of the toxins in tobacco and tobacco smoke.

My white cat would actually leave the room whenever one was lit up!
Shed actually look @ U like WTF! Ure actually doing that??? EEEW!!! then run out of the room like there was a bomb threat called in!
It was f U n N i E!!!
the other two cats Males (one black one Grey tabby) didn't mind it tho!
Even another female( brown tabby) and male and the male is Siamese doesn't care but the female runs as if the 4 month old lab my brother has is chasing her!! HA HA HA!!!
I suppose women or FEMALES of all races and species are just smarter...after all it was my BF who smoked LOL!!!

I ACTUALLY (REALLY) HAD TO STOP SMOKING BECAUSE OF MY CAT. At the beginning, everytime I lit one, she ran away. No matter how long I called, she would wait till she couldn't smell any nicotine and then come back in. In winter, it was painful to see her standing alone out on the balcony waiting for my cigarette to be puffed. It's been one year and 3 months now and I owe it all to my cat. I had tried Nicorette too many times I had given up... but for Chloe, I am never going back to smoking.

It stinks and second hand smoke is as dangerous to animals as it is people. Cats can develop asthma, which secondhand smoke plays a part in. Be nice to your animals and if your going to smoke, smoke outside. Your kitties will thank you

yes,I have one cat.He does like to watch the pattern too.But once it goes towards his face,he will give me little dirty looks, like hes better than you are, well perhaps he is in that sense(not smoking). But I think its so cute the little dirty looks he gives me. He is so cute.It probably smells disgusting to him.I looked at some of the other answers like, perhaps you should quit. Those kind of remarks just erk me.Like they dont have "vices".

Poppy will sometimes get entranced by the smoke, and if she gets too close she gags. She doesn't take a 'tude with me, though.
