As far as I'm concerned I believe it has been, there is so much proof. I mean isn't genetics enough to prove this? I don't know but it seems to me like you would have to be foolish to not believe this theory.. but I guess people used to believe the earth was Flat. Okay well I know how scientific theorys are extremely hard to prove, but I still don't get why even though its only a theory which has much proof why a lot of people don't believe its true.

Look at these..

I mean we have all these species that HAVE evovled, especially sharks. This is not a Rant I'm just listing stuff to Show you there is Proof of Evolution, I just don't understand whats holding it back from being Proven?

Theorys CAN be proven, and I have researched this theory and not one place says it has been proven.

Actually as far as I have seen the Theory is that things do Evolve, not how they evolve. As to how they evolve that is easy to explain and has been explained.

Stop posting stuff about Christianity and stick to the question. If I wanted a good science fiction book I'd read the bible, stop posting stuff like "The Bible proves it Wrong!" and "The Bible has all the Facts ignore that dumb old evolution theory!".

I have read the Bible, which is why I am not a christian. Please stick to the question.

chippylippylippylooh bringing Atheists into this is not needed, Evolution is said to be a religion so this has nothing to do with Atheists nor Agnostics. Also I have never been told children are born with tails and gills, and I wasn't so I don't know what your talking about. Also I think the majority of people believe there is a Higher Power because back in the day they were killed by churches for going against them. Its just tradition.

It has been proved that some things have evolved, but the reason people do not believe it, is that it goes against everything they believe in.It would cause to many conflicts with religious beliefs. No matter how much proof could be set out there, some people will never believe.

One of the reason that evolution is considered a "theory" is because there still remain many disagreements within the scientific community on how, when (and even if) it happened.

I was reading one article this weekend about the appearance of modern day humans that placed it at 40,000 years ago. In the same journal was a second article that claims to show that "modern" humans were already using fine metal tools, wearing makeup and steaming seafood 160,000 years ago. So which is it?

I found one article that states Neanderthals were an evolutionary offshoot, with limited intelligence that died out centuries ago. Next to it was a second article from the same biology department of the same major US university which claims that Neanderthals were intelligent, had a fully developed spoken language, cared for their families and their dead, and appear to have interbred with the races considered to be "homo sapiens". It proposed that Neanderthals should be considered "homo sapiens", and not a separate species. So which is it?

There does appear to be evidence that the dominate species on earth have changed over the centuries. But most scientist now believe that those changes were caused by catastrophes, such as a meteor hitting earth that killed many species and allowed others (possible already existing species) to emerge in their place. You can see an example of such a species change in the American Bison (or buffalo) that when from a herd that numbers into the billions to near extinction in a single generation. What might a future archeologist think happened to the bison a few thousand years from now? Would the buffalo become an arguement for evolution?

I have read many times that the difference between a human's genome and that of a chimpanzee is less then 5%. But then I read other articles that are now saying the difference in genes between any two humans (forget other species) may be as much as 15-20%. That is a major difference. Which is it?

Whether "evolution" happened or not is something you will have to decide based on your reading of the evidence. But it remains a "theory" because there are still too many questions about it that have not been answered for it to be presented as "absolute fact".

Do a study sometime of the things that science as "proven" as fact over the centuries that we now know are wrong: a flat earth, a earth centered universe, all matter is made from four elements (earth, wind, fire, water - and maybe ether, they could never decide on number five), And hundreds more....

Why? Because it's a theory. Theorys are based on suppositions, and change with new theories. I don't know how many times since I was in grade school, that the theory has "changed" or "evolved". "They" once thought that we were heading into a new ice age, back in the late 60's. Now it's all about global warming. Okay, okay, I've regressed...sorrrreeeee! My point is that it can only be a theory 'cause there was no one there to make a record of it. The reason many believe that the Bible's accounts are true (other than faith) is that people have found tangible proof of the civilizations that the Bible talks about. When they started digging up whole cities that were once thought to be nothing but legends, "they" had to start believing that the Bible wasn't just a storybook, full of fables and scary stories meant to make you scared into faith. While there does seem to be some "proof" of evolution, there's just too many unanswered questions to totally embrace it. Like, why haven't ALL species evolved? Alligators and cockroaches alike have been shown to be in their original forms. If all life came from one organism, all life should have moved on, in the evolution chain. It's easier for me to believe in the yunkyard theory than evolution...where a junkyard blows up, then comes back together to form a Harley-Davidson! The thing is, what caused the junkyard to blow up? Something had to start it. Things just don't blow up without a reason. Even a volcano has a reason for blowing up. Even physics teaches you that for every action there is a reaction, but something has to trigger the action in the first place. Since many don't want to believe in a Master Designer, "they're" looking for another way. Believing in a Master Designer would cause a person to come to grips with who they are and their response to this information. So, what's holding these "theories" of evolution back? Tangible proof. Unbroken links in every area. "They" don't have them. Why? Because all the links don't hook up. WIthout the finished product, you've got no product. Have a great day! <*)))><

I learned about evolution in school, which was years ago, but the same teacher told me that children were born with tails and gills. Give me a break. If I didn't believe it then, I won't believe it now. You ask why religious individuals overlook the so called "evidence" that is provided regarding evolution, yet atheists overlook the evidence that proves that there is a higher power. Why does the majority of the WORLD believe in a higher power? There is something fueling that right? So I guess the small percentage of the world that is consisted of atheists is more intelligent than the larger percentage of the world because they believe in evolution? There are so many common misconceptions in the Bible, such as claiming it said the Earth was flat, when it said "God sits on the CIRCLE of the Earth". That is what fueled Christopher Columbus and did he not prove that? Remember before he proved the Earth was round, everyone, including atheists believed the Earth was flat, because they didn't know, but the Bible is the only thing that said the Earth was round. Atheists used it back then as proof that the Bible wasn't true, when it was proven later that it was indeed true. I believe what I want, you believe what you want. I am a Christian, and always will be.

Your question indicates that you have a misunderstanding of the term "scientific theory". A scientific theory cannot be proven in the sense that a mathematical theory can be proven. However, it is not called a theory until it has been tested and shown to be true. Of course, if new evidence comes along that disputes that theory, then it is modified or scrapped altogether.

The theopry of evolution seeks to explain how evolution works. We know evolution exists... that isn't the purpose of the theory, though. The theory of evolution doesn't say "we think species evolve." It says "We think this is how species evolve."

There is also a theory of gravitation. It seeks to explain how gravity works, not THAT it works. We already know that.

The only reason this is a question is because some woefully misinformed people think that evolution doesn't happen because they are not educated enough to understand the intricasies of the process. They don't contradict gravity because even the most uninformed and uneducated dolt can see that dropped items fall down. But they are equally established and the theories for both are equally in flux.

EDIT: You have to have expected the Bible stuff here, didn't you? Go ask in biology if you're going to get upset about the bible stuff. I agree with you, but I would not have asked the question here if I was going to get all bent out of shape when they pull out their Bibles.

Evolution as something that has happened is pretty much proven and accepted in scientific circles as fact. What is not proven and remains open is the exact mechanisms and how it occurs. We are still learning about how different facets of the evolutionary process work and how big a part they play.

It's sufficiently proven to our scientists and all other intelligent people . No matter how much evidence is shown , the Holies have to scream , " That's still not enough " .
While they show nothing to back up their hokus-popkus creation story , they can't afford to accept evolution . If they did , the whole idea of religion would fall apart .

It's proven insofar as it can be observed, and the observations fit into a wider framework of knowledge. You are probably confusing the scientific 'theorem' with the conventional use of the word. They are not the same. Check out the wikipedia link.

Very broadly, scientific 'proof' is where the same set of conditions inevitably lead to the same set of observations. You can see how physics and chemistry would be more provable than biology since biology has a somewhat changing set of conditions. Proof in biology isn't as conclusive as in other branches of science, but it's close enough, and in many ways harder to show since the framework it has to fit into is more complex.

By definition, a theory can't be proven. A theory is the highest order in science. A theory can either remain a theory, or be falsified. So it CAN'T be "proven". Look up the definition of a scientific theory. Gravitation is a theory.
