I have both Windows XP Pro and Vista Home Premium and if the new PCs didn't come with Vista as the only option, I'd have taken XP. XP is by far the more supported operating system for third party applications, hardware, and drivers. Over time, Vista may eventually overtake XP, but XP will be hard to beat due to it actually being a fairly solid product from Microsoft. Vista is the upgrade that didn't need to be created in my opinion.

All new computers are sold with Vista, unless you are planning to get a Mac. Vista is very good for personal use it is the best OS for personal use to date. But for networking and business I wouldn't recommend it. I have Windows Vista Home Premium and thats what I would recommend for the price. It has all that XP has plus much more. The way files are organized are great. Most bugs have been fixed, and compatablity issues have for the most part been resolved most products that were out before Vista now support Vista, and pretty soon you will be seeing things not supporting XP. Get it if your opting for Personal use( if your main priority isnt business and network related) and if you want to still do networking you are still able to. Get either Vista Home Premium or Vista ultimate but Premium should be enough.

I just recently got a new laptop a couple of months ago and was worried about getting Vista also because I had heard so many bad things. When I called Dell to order my laptop I was informed that on the model of laptop I was getting that they only offered Vista. The main thing I use my laptop for is to get online and play games or pay bills. I got the Vista Home Basic and have had no problems with the Vista at all. None of the problems that others have had have occured for me. Good luck :)

Vista looks a Little cooler visually, especially with the 3d, although not included in the basic version. Also a few minor security improvements. Although vista is a memory hog, your laptop will go MUCH MUCH faster with xp on it. Choose vista if the laptop has very high specs!

As of todays date my copy is stable. Havent had any bugs or crashes in months. Sucks up a bit more power (CPU/RAM) but with a system as fast as mine I dont notice the difference. Also havent had a virus since I got Vista, dunno if this is in part to me not being stupid enough to get a virus but I think the fact that its a much more secure operating system plays a big part in it. I dont know exactly what you mean by "Version" but if its the type i'm using Vista Ultimate and its just fine.
(PS. Get Home Premium, while Ultimate is great with Dreamscene and some extras they really havent made it worth the price you pay for it. You're better off getting Home Premium and "Anytime upgrading" online when you feel there are enough features to justify the cost of Ultimate)

I agree wholeheartedly with Norlan. I'd go with Vista Home Premium. I have both Ultimate and Home Premium. HP is on my desktop and ultimate is on my laptop. If you have two computers, it is easier to network with both computers running vista than one with xp and the other with vista. Plus, Vista HP can also sync with the xbox 360 or any other media extender and you can access your music, videos, pictures, and other files through your tv with HP, but not basic or business.

i would try windows vista premium it has features that show off the frills of vista but can save a few dollars. in my opinion windows vista is very beautiful and it has some cool new features, it just to me doesn't quite live up to the hype.
i hope this helps!

if you really want to experience the full effect of vista, then i'll suggest get ultimate. although getting a home premium is all you need. ultimate only comes with extras like hold 'em poker game and dreamscene(where you can use video as your wallpaper). so if you just need to just experience vista, home premium is the way to go.
