"There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope. The death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender." The future is all around us, waiting in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future, or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born… in pain."

We are experiencing a very painful paradigm shift in our thinking and in our institutions from conceiving ourselves as nations to conceiving ourselves as one planet. However, we have made it through every previous shift from conceiving ourselves as basically family-clan to tribe to village to city to state to nation. Many know this and have great hope in the future and are constructing that planetary infrastructure that will eventually bring justice, peace, and prosperity to every person on planet earth. The supporting technology already exists. All we lack is the political will, and we will get it because the alternative is proving too painful. Now is the time to ally ourselves with the forces of light and embrace and live the oneness of humanity and all that implies. As Ghandi says, Be the change you want to see in the world.

OK, well, I'm neither Seeker, Pagan, or Wiccan, but I'm gonna take a whack at it anyway. (If you would prefer I not answer such questions, intended for specific groups, please let me know -- I'll leave them alone.)
I would say that chaos and despair are the "children" of the powers and principalities, more or less. Souls losing their way would be pretty dark to any faith (on non-faith). The "born . . . in pain" bit is a pretty common childbirth cliche, and all in all I'm glad this isn't a personal quote from you, simply because I find it a little cheesy, even to a fan / writer of fantasy. I wouldn't say it's an untrue quote at all -- I fight the death of hopes and dreams every day, and it's not easy.

I honestly don't understand why this question about a Babylon 5 quote is directed towards Wiccans. The quote is very appropriate for the content in which it was said on the show, but what does that have to do with Wiccans? We're not fighting a great darkness, and we haven't been suffering the horrible things the speaker had lived through when the quote was said. This seems totally random.

It's true that change -- even GOOD change -- has to fight its way past our status quo resistance, so perhaps that is the "pain" intended. Sometimes it is REAL pain. I try not to dwell on the future.

But Your quotation marks are confusing, and i wish You would quote Your source. I appreciate the wisdom in the first part of the quote, and "Against this peril we can never surrender." Did You intend to close the quote there? Is the rest of it from a different source?

there is a greater darkness, and a great despair of the soul...life is chaos...in not doing one's TRUE WILL is this pain and despair heightened...
we can shape our futures in the way we want, which should be in the way of one's true will...you can shape material things because all they are are just concentrated vibrations, not really there, that you can will to happen
the real future is in the evolution of the mind, waiting to be discovered and used...
lessons can only be learned usually through pain

This seems like a very gloomy forecast to me.

It is a matter of how one chooses to view the situations that confront us. You could take this negative approach but you could just as easily choose to see things in a more positive light.

Ultimately it's up to the individual. What is certain though is the choices you make create the future you will perceive.

So what's your point? People, determined to see the world as ugly and evil, have succeeded in making the world ugly and evil.

As a Wiccan, all I can say is that has diddly to do with Wicca. Wicca doesn't teach we are at war, in pain or in darkness.

Don't worry about dogma and don't sweat the small stuff. Keeping true to yourself is more important.
